Sell Your Grail....
What would make you do it? Something new? A change to its design? Personally if they made an Everose DD with a smooth bezel, I’d get rid of my 228235. What about you guys? 41mm Daytona? Date on a Milgauss?

If it's a 'grail,' no. Which leads me to say that we throw that word around a lot here without really thinking what it means.
@Lee: Now that's a grail. ![]() |

Well I sold my RG DD2 for a RG Nautilus so new issues can replace old grails. Never say never.

I’d seriously consider consolidating if Rolex updates the Sub LVc with the new movement, slimmer case, and black dial.

It isn't your grail if you are consifering selling it for something different.
I would only sell mine in case of an extreme emergency. |

Now my 16610 is confined to the back of the drawer. As both grails are pretty much Submariners with different complications I'm not sure that I'll fall back in love down the road. |

I would have never said that up to a few years ago, that I would spend the price of a 116655.
Its gonna take me about 1.5 years to do it without buying anything else in between. That us my grail with my current income status. If I win the lottery, it may change but the 116655 sends chills up my spine when I look at it. Will I buy other watches post 116655 purchase? Definitely. There are several that I want to acquire. CHNR, Ghost DJ II, Slate Roman DJ 41 etc. The latter not being grails, are fill ins because I like them.

For me, the grail is a 6263. I foresee that watch being outside of my range for quite some time, if not forever. I wouldn’t ever sell it if i was able to get it. That’s a “grail” to me. It’s the end game in collecting, the Everest peak.

If I build up enough funds and my present grail continues to gain value, I will PX it for my next grail up, the one I thought I could never have in this life. Present grail = Hulk. Next grail up =Smurf. If the cost to trade up approaches a certain number I will go for it. It will probably never happen, but one must have dreams.

I've never really thought of pining after a "grail" watch since things are always available on the market, with the only issue being if money being spent on it can be rationalized or not.
I will say that there are two watches I'll never part with - my Submariner 116618 LN and my Daytona 116508. I really love them and I'll likely keep them until I croak and pass them down to my two sons (who both love watches).

For me it would have to be for some type of family emergency and all other options have been exhausted.

Checked the meaning of the word "grail." It is a thing which is earnestly sought or pursued. Once you have it, it is no longer a grail but a "possession."
In effect what is being asked if would you sell a possession? Yes, if another "grail" pursuit arises or if the thing you own is no longer cherished. |

So your selling your DD40? Question is why? Its the ultimate watch for many and buying a SS sub or Milgauss probably will not satisfy your desire.

Yep - once it stops being the one, then it’s easy to move on.

Once the novelty wears off, it is time to let it go.
There is only a single watch in my collection that I would not sell--bought it on a very special occasion. The rest may go when the time is up.

After loving the mechanical watches for several decades I have come to the conclusion that my grail is the Rolex brand more than a model, if I do not have a Rolex I feel I'm missing something, even a PP, I have to have a crown !! I understood it after many mistakes.
My current grail within the brand is my SD43 and only a very big pressure would make me leave it. |
