Bezel style

Do you prefer a fluted or smooth bezel on a modern Rolex? And is there a reason other than aesthetics?

I always liked the fluted one when I first paid attention to the Day-Days in the mid 70's.

If money were no object, I'd have a Platinum DD as I like the looks of the smooth bezel now.

The smooth bezels can be scratch magnets, especially on the wider modern bezels. The older smooth bezels on vintage DJs, for example, are much better, IMHO, because they don't show scratches nearly as easily.

Smooth. Would get it in my DD40 if I could. It’s literally the only thing I would change.

Smooth for me but I wouldn't kick a girl out of bed if she likes flutes.

I have both and would say get the classic fluted unless its platinum which then of course should have a diamond bezel ;)

The fluted is a classic look

Datejust and Day Dates.....gotta be fluted IMO. That's the iconic look that's always going to stick in my head thinking Rolex.

Fluted for me. Some models I prefer with smooth, but in a general way prefer fluted on DJ and DD.

Never liked fluted bezel. Like smooth one on some models. Prefer professional bezel though.

^same.

I actually really like the look of the fluted bezel on the DJ41. I like the juxtaposition of the fluted bezel with the more modern case and dial proportions.

A DJ36 with fluted bezel can look a bit dated in some material/color combos. When I had my DJ36, I went for a smooth bezel and oyster bracelet with a silver/rhodium tuxedo dial. If I were to buy one again I think I would go for a jubilee bracelet but probably stick with a smooth bezel... either steel and blue dial or RG TT with a white or rhodium dial.

I opted for a smooth bezel DJ41 because I thought it looked casual and/or dressy based on what I was wearing

I agree, fluted bezel fitting DD/DJ/SkyD perfect.

I always liked the look of the fluted bezel on the DJ & have a fluted TT with jubilee .But I saw this & thought it was the best combination & just had to have one , & currently quite smitten with it .
