My First Turtle

While I’ve been a fan of Seiko and Grand Seiko for some time, I always kind of disliked the look of the Turtles. I just thought that the shape of the case wasn’t quite for me and that they would look too large on my wrist.

With an increasing number of them popping up on this forum, and Seiko releasing so many cool variants, I had no choice but to at least try some on. What a revelation! As many of you already know, they wear so comfortably and look so cool on the wrist, and they feel like the equal of much more expensive timepieces.

Obviously my only recourse was to buy one. But which one? I like so many of them that it was hard to choose one. I ultimately decided on the Save The Ocean model, but I can see a few more versions joining the collection soon.

As always, thanks for your influence! Pics...

I know what you mean. I too thought the cushion case was ugly and also thought it was too large for my wrist; until I tried one on. I really enjoy my PADI Turtle. Congrats!

Congrats! You are in trouble now, but at least the trouble costs south of $400.

I want that watch, great choice. The case is weird for sure, but it’s cool and different. It has a throwback look which I love, 70’s style. I have a 779 and if I ever come across a save the ocean with perfect alignment like yours, I will buy it.

I will just jump in and hijack. The band that the STO comes with is very nice, comfy and attractive. But it is a lint magnet. I replaced mine.

Thanks everyone! I'm really enjoying it, it's on my wrist at this very moment. I think my next move will be to pick up another one and mod it a little - add a ceramic bezel, different hands, who knows...

It is great to be a Seiko collector and to be part of this forum. I know it has been said before, but being a Seiko collector feels like what it used to feel like to be a Rolex collector 10 or 20 years ago.

Yeah I do love the band, it's super soft and comfortable. And indeed it is a lint magnet, but I don't really care about that, I just blow it off if I see it building up (which I think has my wife a bit bemused, wondering why I occasionally blow on my wrist.)

I have been perusing the Uncle Seiko site. I'm sure I'll be adding a few straps and/or bracelets just for fun.
