I looked at Sub with an F serial number (2004, or there about). Light seemed to reflect oddly off the second hand so I asked the salesperson for a loupe and sure enough there appeared to be pitting.

The watch had been fully serviced by a company whose name started with a "Z" but I can't remember the name. Had a 3 year warranty.

I didn't know white gold would do that and did not notice pitting anywhere else on the dial.

Is this common?

Gold itself doesn’t “pit” but it can collect mold if it wasn’t cleaned and stored properly while awaiting re-installation during the service.

Or a non-OEM plated part was used.

Assuming genuine hands (since I'm not aware of aftermarket gold hands), you're saying that mold can collect and presumably thrive on Rolex's alloy of 18K white (grey) gold?

This appeared to be true pitting, like dug into the surface not something growing on top.

They sound like aftermarket steel hands. Genuine hands shouldn't have any issues at all, especially given that hands from an F serial would be gold.

It's hard to make a call beyond that without seeing them. Can you get a clear photo?

Wish I could but it's at a jeweler's an hour and a half away.
