Rolex day-date ii platinum ice blue
Hello,
I went a saw the new DD-2 that my AD had in the window. He is such a nice dealer - he took it out for me to inspect. I did tell him I could never afford the price! But he said - Osshi, relax, take a look. Anyhow..... I tried it.... I AM VERY SORRY TO SAY THIS..... BUT..... It felt too heavy..... like an oversize fake PRESIDENT.... I know it was 100% genuine.... but it just felt like a fake oversize copy of a PRESIDENT...... The workmanship was excellent.... but..... I HATE IT! Sorry guys..... I don't understand this rediculous size watch thing..... what is wrong with the original President size? The old president was perfect (even for a very overweight guy like me.....) but this new huge watch trend........ VERY SORRY TO REPORT THIS. |

i am younger..(23 years old) and prefer a larger watch, however, I tried on the same DDII and also the yellow gold with diamond markers....and I will have to agree that it was VERy heavy and MUCH too large for my liking. a BEAUTIFUL WATCH yes, and I would own one, but i think something that flashy, being that big, would simply be a target....I wouldnt feel safe wearing that thing!

I agree with your sentiments on the DDII.
The Platinum DD, however, is a great watch. I just would never buy it in the DDII. The Bezel is too *BIG* and unattractive. Needs to be covered up with baguette diamonds! |

Agree 100% with all above,
 The DD-II is overweight and too big with a giant bezel that would only look better if it rotated with numbers on it, ala TOG.  As is its not uniform in its design.

Yes the DD-II is quite a large watch, and I agree with the observation that the width of the bezel seems to be disproportionate when compared to the original DD.
Just my humble opinion, but there will be some guys who love it.

I've only seen pics of it, and I almost instantly fell in love.
I guess I will have to locate one in person to get a true impression about the watch

I Saw several DD II's at the Wynn Rolex store and I also find it too big. It seems they, just tried to blow up the DD and didn't design a new watch from scratch. I'm 6'2" 205, so I'm not a small guy and it looked good on my wrist but I like the original better. My brother on the other hand liked the DD II better, it's all in the eye of the beholder.
However, if I had a DD II I would learn to love it. |

i've only seen it in pics... and from that perspective the bezel does look a little off, whereas with the new milgauss, even though it's almost the same size, things look more proportioned.

I tried on the white gold with diamond markers at C.D. Peacock and when I put it on my wrist, I was simply overwhelmed by it. It is much too big in my opinion. Not just the diameter of the case but also the thickness, it is a total beast.

THE NEW DDII = LOVE IT....PURE LOVE, just need to see more dials, i wanna see an Thahitan MOP DIAL, on a WG, SMOoth bezel, roman numerals......wow!

The sales lady at the AD the other day offered to let me try on their 1 and only DDII, a gold one, but I declined simply because it looked way out of proportion in person, I knew I wouldn't like it and the price tag was $27,500. Now, I kind of wish I would have tried it on to get an impression. Maybe next time.

DD2 has proportion issues IMHO. From what I have heard some changes to the dials are coming and maybe the bezel.

I don't know what you guys are talking about!? I own a gold DDII with black wave dial and I love it.. It's not that big compared to 44mm and 48mm watches I have owned.. not that heavey either compared to my old breitling bentley.. I think it sits perfect on my whrist and I also love the oversized fluted bezel.. I returned my DD 36mm MOP diamond dial after a week when i found out my AD got in the DDII I went and picked it up instead and am not sorry I did so... Being i'm only 24 years old i felt that the 36mm was more of an old mans watch and everyone in the AD agreed with me...

I went to day to the Galleries and see the white gold and yellow gold at Tourneau. The yellow gold with the ivory dial and arabic numbers is really pretty. I was offered 13% off but I know I can get better price than that. I have small wrist but the watch looks perfect on it. It is just a little big bigger than my LV. I have to agree that the new DDII falls between a dress watch and a sport watch due to the size. For my taste, DDII all the way. The DDI looks very small in my opinion.
Walking to the next watch store, I tried the blancpain fifty phantoms. Same price than the DDII. I was tempted, but I will keep my LV and will go either for the DDII yellow gold or the DDII platinum which I have not seen in person if I get 33% off and no taxes. I think with this economy, it will not be hard to find a dealer willing to sell. By the way, Ben Bridge told me there are two DDII platinum in California in their stores. If you are there, you might want to stop by and see the watch in person. |

From the above pics - I think the DD-2 with fluted bezel seems much much nicer.....
Although I personally think the old model is probably a bargain 2nd hand! I think the smoove bezel on the platinum model is probably the faulty with the proportions. |

I like the Day-Date II but the color of the dial makes all the difference
Buy the wrong dial and you got a monster Buy with the right dial and you have got a work of art. Did I hear you say which dial is the right one...???. ...But of course..the one you like..

i think this watch is not too big and not too small... I think its just right and will last me for many many moon to come. I love the fact it has no diamonds, just a black dial with a textured wave through it and a nice big fluted bezel which i have always loved and now love even more that its a bit larger.. i love the numbers on the dial nice and easy to read and the fact it has no lume i love as well... i think lume does not belong on a dress watch.. much cleaner without IMO
I think my watch looks like a lion and the big fluted bezel is the fur around its neck ready to attack innocent DD and DJ's! hahaha... |

I agree with most of the above, the DDII is a monster IMHO. I usually like 40mm watches but the DD looks best in 36mm, an absolute classic.

In a perfect world I will own a 36 mm DD Plat with the Ice Blue face and smooth bezel
& A RG DDII with a white dial and romans........... Someday.... That way you have classy dress and sporty dress
