Patek PC

Happy New Years all,

I just picked up a lange PC, and would like to do the same with pateks.

I have a 5711, 5524r, and 5146g, so I'm curious which modern PC would you guys recommend. I might move on from the 5146g in place of that.

5327
5140
5320

these three seem to be the most common ones, which one do you guys prefer and why?

Much thanks!

I agree, but I tried on one at my AD, but they seem a bit too large for me, and rather thick, so to speak. maybe its just my perception.

It’s definitely larger than the others you mentioned. Maybe find a mint 3940. 5140 and 5327 have the squished numbers which bug me and the 5320 seems too fake retro. Just my opinion.

3940 is the correct answer.

I love my 5327. If you hold the 5140 and 5327 side by side the squished numbers are more apparent on the 5140. This is because the numbers 27-5 on the 5327 are all the same size albeit a tad smaller than 7-25, while only the 5 and 27 are changed on the 5140. The sharp contrast on the 5140 emphasizes it much more.

If you can get past that then I’d go 5327, I absolutely love the breguet numerals, they’re beautiful.

I haven't noticed that squished number 5 on the 5327 before but now that you mention it....Its all I see

I love my 3940, so that would be my recommendation. If you want more complex but still a modest diameter, go 3970

I’m out of my comfort zone talking these but I like the modern 5320 if the 5270 is too large for you

If you want a new PC, get the 5327, especially if you are looking for a slim watch. You should be able to get a 5140P in excellent condition without difficulty if you want a platinum PC. As for 3940, they have been discontinued for over 10 years, so keep in mind that a service may be warranted.

The 5320 is another option. But you should try it on to see if you like it before making a purchasing decision.

You might want to try the 5970, slightly less diameter.

Has to be 5327 G , great 39 mm size, love the applied gold numbers, blue face and strap , even better if you can get new cylinder leather winder. Got mine about 2 mos ago and wear watch about once a week - haven’t had to wind or reset watch nor change batteries in winder. Love subtle elegance of white gold.

Of your three 5140 is the way to go. Font and numbers are a little garish and the 5 is squished so the 3940 is a far better option plus it is more legible. I would look at the 5320G close in person before you go with that. No real Patek DNA and the over the top fake retro you could very quickly tire of. Market on 5320 has softened quite a bit, but prices are still too high. The hit has been taken on the 3940, buy at a fair price and you will wear it and not lose when the time to sell inevitably arrives.

5327 case is really too large for the movement.

Beauty! I'd get a PCC as well so this or the 5970 for the size.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions. I've looked at the 5327 and 5140 before and liked them both. Although I did fine the blue dial on the 5327 to be a bit... too blue if you will.
Will try to find a 5320 to try on.

Yep 3940 has taken a huge hit and the reason imo is b/c it’s a 36mm. If you buy a 36 mm you will always feel like you compromised. Just my 2 CT’s worth. I have a beautiful Vacheron Patrimony that gets little wrist time because it is I think 36 mm .

I might be mistaken, but I think the 3940g retailed for ~$50k, and they probably go for $45k now. The 5327g retails for $87k and can be easily had for $65k. Which has taken the huge hit?

Also, I don’t agree that the OP would feel like he compromised...the 3940, imo, has much better proportions and dial layout. It was Philippe stern’s watch of choice, and I’m guessing he could have worn whatever he wanted.

5320 is a lot nicer in person. It’s a large PC compared to Patek’s other offerings, but it is still smaller than the 5270. A lot less cluttered and I like that it has a center seconds hand.

The 3940 is my second choice. The dial layout and font size/spacing is much better than the 5140 and 5327.

So in a three cornered fight (3940 v 5140 v 5327), which is best for a 7.25” wrist?
