Thoughts on a watch wrap/protector ?

I just want to get everyone’s opinions on what your thoughts on watch protection. As in if there was a clear precise invisible kit out there that fully shields your watches from scratches and cosmetic damages incurred from daily desk diving/use would you buy it ? You would essentially be able to enjoy your watch on a daily basis but also retain the new look/resale value for years to come. No need to polish out any possibly scratches and desk diving scratches would no longer be an issue. No residue when peeled off. Just curious on what everyone’s thought about that is.

The car industry has been using wrapping for years as an alternative to painting. I'm sure the same technology could be used to wrap a bracelet in a way it would not even be visible. Either way, I wouldn't be interested!

I got the expected jeers on a thread I started last week about putting Xpel material on the polished part of my new watch’s clasp. I’m okay with that but I think wrapping the entires watch is overkill.

Watch wrap/protector below tells it all.

if there was some magical wrap which would not change the texture, feel, function, or finish of the watch.... maybe I'd be interested.

There is a redundancy of threads on this subject over the years. You have 2 options. Wear it and accept the fact it will scratch, or stick it back in the box and in a dresser drawer and she will look new forever.

Lol I was fully ready and expecting backlash for this post haha. When I meant entire watch I meant each part individually so in sense you can choose what you want to protect and what you don’t want to protect. Wouldn’t construct movement or be any difference in feeling once it’s applied.

It wouldn’t change the look, feel, function or finish of the polished parts at all, just less scratches lol

Scratches are part of the ownership experience. Accept them, or live in misery.

That’s true, I’m new to TRF but I have ran across some posts. Has anyone actually went through and created a system like that and tested the durability/function yet? What if you could actually try it?

Yes they have, Rolex have created and ship each watch inside a coffin replete with “stickers”, which are mainly clear. There are a few on the bracelet that are translucent red. These stickers help keep the watch “new and scratch free” during shipment. Then, when you buy the watch, the AD removes them (by decree by Rolex HQ), that is unless you are a Grey Dealer, where they allow you to keep them so you can command a premium of upwards of $4k just for the stickers.

i understand that part, the stickers shipped by rolex are only there for transportation purposes, they dont hold up well and are mere plastic and if not removed they will eventually accumulate dirt on the corners from the lack of adhesive on them. i meant protection as in being able to daily wear and enjoy your time piece while maintaining the "out of box" new look. i guess to each their own lol some people dont mind the scratches and some people want the new look.

LOL - Well said! Any way ya say it, it's an absurd idea.

To the OP, welcome to TRF. I'm not interested in giving you a hard time, but if you're fearful of scratching your Hulk, and it will pick up scratches, don't wear it. Ever. And, if you're noy going to wear it, just sell it and purchase something you won't worry about.

It's only a watch - not the Hope diamond.
