Love the Submariner 16610 !!!

Some or Many of you might have seen my previous threads
and journey with my Sd4k and trying to replace it .
Not that it needed to be replaced because it’s a fantastic
reference... For personal reasons I let it go and
found a replacement.

Searching for quite some time I’ve been on the hunt
for a 5 digit Sub as I already have a ceramic blue sub
and wanted something a little different as a TRF member
had suggested.

Tossing and turning should I get a Sub C or a Sub C date since I've been already
used to the 6 digit ceramics I settled on a sub date LN pre-ceramic.

I’ve never ever owned one because I always thought it was
too boring...
Needless to say I took the plunge on the 16610.
Since I already have a Ceramic Bluesy, I have a ceramic fix
Thus I couldn’t be more ecstatic about the 5 digit LN Sub...

After about a week and a half I Simply love it !!!
The feel , the weight and the proportions of the
5 digit are absolutely perfect ... I even like the older clasp...
I found a gorgeous tritium dial early 16610 and took the plunge.

The watch is terrific but how many incomings do you plan to do on it? Or is this just a “I’m still really happy with my decision and loving the watch” thread? LOL. Well, at least it’s not about the SS Rolex shortage or some such drivel.

Lol, Chilly Coconut... I don't see where I've written
"Incoming" on this thread...

Just simply want to tell the forum I'm really loving my new to me
16610 5 digit sub date after a week and a half.
There is more to Rolex than :

Batman, Hulk, SS BLRO and Sub C and Sub C date 6 digits
everyone is on back order for... OR NOT!!!

Not that I don't feel every ones pain but once you get past the
hype you begin to realize Rolex has been around for awhile and
a lot of their references are timeless...

Great reference. Like you, I personally prefer the older-style clasp with the logo stamped into the steel. Adds further character to the watch!

Great choice ... proportionally works great on average to smaller wrist size.

I once contemplated selling my Y Serial. So glad I didn’t. It’s gets the lions share of wrist time - bar none - in my collection.

Jason71 above provided invaluable advice and enabling way back in 2008/9 or so...

The no dates are good looking watches, but there’s something about the cyclops that just makes a Rolex a Rolex..

After 20 years of drooling at them every time I’d see one I finally got a 116610 and love it. I have no other “luxury” items but the thing just can be worn any time.

Thanks Brian...

I have a confession... My first Rolex love was the 5 digit Bluesy
since the 80’s when I was a teen . It’s all I ever dreamed about,
I knew of the stainless steel version after a short while
but that blue dial just sang to me ...
Up until the ceramic models I really wasn’t
interested in the classic versatile look. Once I picked up a Bluesy
I began looking for something with a black dial that sang to me as well.

Funny how most people get a SS black dial watch then a Bluesy
but for me it was the opposite...

I’m glad to have been of some assistance.

I recently had a guy remind me how I helped him through the purchase of a beautiful 16800. He’s thanking his lucky stars now that he decided to go through with it. I wish I would have bought 10 of them back then.

Looks great. The 16610 was my first Rolex and I absolutely love it. I find it very comfortable and have no issues with the older bracelet and clasp. Mine is even starting to get that nice patina since it’s 21 years old. I’m very happy for you. Wear it in good health

It's a great watch Mario and it's hard to beat. I prefer it to a 6 digit Submariner also

Fantastic watch, congrats on a true classic. Perhaps this and theie exp line) are the last of the true tool watches. There are those that have trouble with the clasp, but the reality is that it has 6 fine adjustments which can be done easily with a paper clip. The bracelet while lighter is just as strong as the new bracelets on current models now.

Awesome choice! I love the rattly hollow center link bracelets. They're so comfortable and the lightness makes them disappear on the wrist. When I compare to my dad's BLNR the difference is tremendous.

Mario, I for one enjoy your posts, the pics, and the excitement you've detailed for your new 16610. It's a fantastically classic watch, and I'm so glad to see that you're thoroughly enjoying it. That's what this place is supposed to be all about, after all. A forum for fans, collectors, and enthusiasts. Kind regards, -Rick.

James, with only 3 posts you may not yet have the right to include pictures...

Now, about the 16610: I am of the same opinion about the proportions of a 5 digit sub and about the clasp.

I have the same "in a different color", although more recent with Luminova and engraved rehaut (with no lug holes) and love its design, more than the one of a 6 digit. But it is a personal choice...

Congratulation, OP!

Quick comparison of before and after .
The SD4K was heftier for sure . Quite comfortable for
a daily ... Compared to the Sub C ND / Date a little better
proportioned on the wrist at 40mm to the original look and less boxy
from the new Subs.

The 5 digit 16610 has that classic look plus a slimmer case and lugs
so when I have to suit up it fits a little nicer . Also. it's a little lighter
and after I strap it on my wrist it disappears and it doesn't irritate
my wrist...

To the say the SD4K is not a great watch I'd be completely wrong
but I am very happy with the move to the classic sub date.
I really like the flow of the oyster design through the clasp as well.
The glidelock will be missed but the clamshell clasp does the job just as well
and looks classy...

I still have my 116613LB should I need a glidelock...
