Looking for a watch, need advice
So I’ve recently got into watch collecting and I’m looking for advice. I’m looking to build a 4 watch collection. I have 3 and looking for the 4th and not sure what to go for. Let me explain my train of thought. The reason I settled on 4 is to have 1 dress watch (for a suit situation), 1 nicer watch to wear nights and weekends when going out, 1 daily/beater watch to wear everywhere during the day and to work (I work in an office so only beating it will see is desk diving) and 1 activity watch to wear in water or any other sport activity that may arise. Here is what I have so far:
Dress watch: This was actually my first automatic. It’s a Sea-Gull 819.382. It’s pretty looking and cheap. I know it’s nothing special but since I only need to wear a suit a couple times per year, I feel that to spend thousands on a watch that will see the light of day a couple times per year is just not worth it. Nice, going out watch: Rolex GMT 126711CHNR. Just got it a few weeks ago. Love it! But being TT, I feel that wearing it every day and desk diving is going to beat it up too much :( So I reserve to wearing it only when going out nights and weekends. And sometimes at home cause I love it so much and feel like it doesn’t come out enough lol. Cheesy I know. Sports/Activity watch: Ulysse Nardin Black Sea Marine Diver 263-92LE-3C/928 limited edition 1 of 250. It’s a great diver watch so no worries taking it into water. Lots of history and horologically significant. Plus the rubber case, rubber strap and ceramic clasp make it super comfortable and durable. Now I’m looking for a daily driver and not sure what to go for. I’m thinking steel on a band is a must. I’ve tried on the Rolex Daytona and although I love how it feels, the size and look, the biggest issue I have is I feel that my daily watch needs a date complication. Plus I’m not paying 20K for it. If I ever have the opportunity to get it at retail, I’ll probably pull the trigger just to have it. But not at this time. Some other options I’m considering is a Rolex Explorer II. Either the current model with the orange hand or a previous gen with the red. I’m also considering a Tudor Black Bay GMT Pepsi. What do you all think? Any good options I’m missing. I do want something that’s not 8 out of 10 wrists like a Sub lol. Thanks in advance!!! |

My advice is to not take anyone else's advice. ( )
These are personal decisions that only you can make for yourself.

Daily Watch: I would recommend Breitling, Omega, TAG Heuer and Oris.
If want to stay under $2000, then Oris get my vote. Swiss made and very high quality watch. Check out their collection under: Oris Diving and Oris Aviation. Good Luck!!

Take a look at the current Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra lineup. MSRP is in the $5500 range on bracelet but can be had for less.

It would help to answer if you provided a budget. And out of curiosity, why not make the UN your daily? That should do as well in sports activities as in the office.
You don't have a GMT so the Exp II is a good choice (I prefer the current version) or the Tudor. The Rolex GMT II is a great watch but with the PCL's I think you'll have the same reservations as you have with the CHNR. |

Tudor Pelagos would be a good one to look at.

I’ve been to Chicago, and there certainly are not subs in 8 of 10 wrists!
That said, look at Heuer Formula 1 Auto...great watches, great prices. Tudor Black Bay or Pelagos do the trick. Lastly, look at an older Explorer II...awesome watch and cheap (relatively speaking).

I like the EXP2/Tudor GMT option...either should work for what you're looking for.

In my 20’s, I approached the collection building exactly like you. One to matcha. Suit, one for a beater, etc. Now I just wear whatever I want regardless of the occasion.
Go “shop” at a grey dealer so you can actually try everything on instead of just looking at photos. I would Marie Kondo the problem. If it sparks joy, it goes into the collection. If it doesn’t, next! |

I'm betting you love the fit, feel and complication of your Chnr. Add another, The LN or Blnr, they're different enough to justify just like a lot of us own 2 or more Subs. Or like you said change it up a little with an Expll. These two get major wrist time from me.
