How will Super-Luminova age?

I often wonder how (or will) it age and discolor over time. Here is an interesting article on the subject:

Great link Fritz, thanks for sharing! From what I understand the luminous material itself is very unreactive and colorfast. The resin binder and any lacquer used to coat the filled plot might change over time due to UV, moisture, chemical factors e.t.c.

My 1999 Speedmaster is the first year produced with SuperLuminova and after 20 years the lume still looks and functions like it did when new. Although I didn't get it new, my P-serial 16710's lume is still ice white.

Love the avatar BTW!

Thanks for the article link, Fritz.

Rolex Chromalight is OK, but barely.

I miss the heck out of Tritium.

I don't recall which post it was, but someone mentioned the new 'vintage' look on modern pieces will be the patina on the case and bracelet. Kind of an interesting way of looking at things as the ceramic and modern lume wont change but the steel will certainly show its age. Guess time and future collector markets will tell.

I’m happy with this. I love a good patina on a watch, but not on the bezel and crystal.
I can imagine a Rolex ad in 50 years showing a subc that looks like it has been to hell and back, but with a pristine bezel and crystal.
