First Panerai Advice
Good Morning All,
I have been playing with the thought of getting a Panerai for an extended period of time now. However, I always believed them to be too big for me. When the 38mm Model finally hit stores, I went to try it on, just to learn that that one wears way to small. ![]() So I asked the associate to show me some 40, 42 and 44 Models. While I think the 40 and 42 Models suited my wrist more, I couldn't find them in the catalog anymore when looking online these few days. Searching on Chrono, I found two options that suit my budget and liking. The 00111 and the 00112. Now my question for you guys is, have some of you bought larger Panerai Models and regretted it? Have you fallen out of love for Panerai? Or have you maintained the love for these oversized watches. To offer some perspective, I mostly wear 36mm and my largest watch is the Man on the Moon Speedmaster Professional. Unfortunately I don't have any Pictures of the Panerais on my wrist, looking forward to hear what you got to say and maybe some Pics! Thanks, Luka

Welcome to the madness!
You’re doing things right by taking your time and trying on several models. Generally speaking, Panerais are meant to be bigger, and, IMHO, the clean lines work best when there’s a bit of room on the dial, so a 44 Luminor is better than a 42. The 111 and 112 are both classic models that are no longer in production. Both are really great, and the manual wind with Bettarini (instead of 1950 case like a 312/1312) will wear thinner. They also should both hold their value, if that matters. For what it’s worth, I’ve had my 164 (also a 44) sinde 2011 and love it more than when I bought it. Good luck with the hunt! |

I just picked up a PAM 1392 which is 42mm. I still think this is “oversized” for my wrist because they wear larger than their advertised size. My biggest watch prior to this was a 42mm speedy and this wears bigger. Take your time to research and try many on if you can. I immediately knew 44mm was way too big for me as soon I tried one on.

So if you would normally wear a 36 mm rolex and like that look, a 42 mm luminor 1950 should fit perfectly. with the much shorter lugs than a rolex, and the leather strap, they wear small for the size. Check out the pam 1392. If you like the radiomir look, I would go for the original radiomir (not the 1940) with the wire lugs, like the pam 610 8 days manual. its a 45, but with no lugs, it wears much smaller on the wrist. Just my two cents |
