Need help with price

Good day Gents,

Would like some help with my purchase. Someone is selling their 1996 Rolex Two-Tone Diamond Datejust with Rhodium Dial for around $5850. Is this a fair price point for this model?

Please see attached pictures for details. Seller is rating it at 9/10.

Thank you very much!

Not original dial but an Aftermarket dial you can get on ebay for $150...

What number is that on the movement? 3195?

A current Cellini 3195 moon phase movement, should be a 3135. A current style box for a 1996 watch, a horrible green sticker on the case back, horrible magnification. This watch is a mess!

I am going to lean towards a fake.

Even if it turns out to be real and its just bad pics, its priced about $1000 over what it should be for a prime example.

Pics are not good enough to tell anything definitive, but there are no red-flags that would indicate it as being an aftermarket/fake dial, IMO.

Not a 3195. Likely just a function of the low-res pics again (making the second "3" in 3135 look like a "9").
Box in not original as mentioned, but the case-back sticker is fine (coronet and reference worn off, which is normal/typical).
Mag looks fine from here as well. No argument regarding the price though...

Thank you very much for the input guys.

Although now I am having second thoughts on buying the watch. Movement seems fine to me though. And the seller didn't mention it was a 1996 model. I was the one who assumed it was a 1996 model based on the serial number if im not mistaken.

Would still like to ask further opinion from others before I go through with this watch or not. Thank you!

Serious?
Only two one minute markers in between the five minutes is not a clue?
That dial is bogus.

I agree with Freefly. Dial looks OK. No difference I can see to the Datejust on Bob's Watches. That also has 2 sub markers between the diamond indices.

Dial looks fine to me though based on Bob's watches with the same model. Only concern I have is the Box and sticker at the back.

Yeah, serious. It's a very common (factory) dial style/type. Are you not aware that there are/were different styles/types of factory diamond dials produced? Some even have NO minute markers between the hours. GASP!

Not likely (and certainly not based on your "observation"), but don't let your amazing track record for getting it wrong stop you from those smug retorts!

At least add an "IMHO" if you're going to give uninformed opinions like this.

As mentioned:

- Dial looks fine, but better pics would help confirm.
- Case back sticker also fine (missing/rubbed off coronet and ref.# from normal wear = very common).
- Box appears to be genuine, but obviously the newer style and not the correct one for that particular era/reference (W-serial watch = 1995-ish).

Thank you for your inputs freefly. The picture I have on my phone seem clear but maybe the upload here seems to have a problem. Let me try attaching another picture below.

Are caseback stickers usually like that on older models? I have seen ones with holographic type stickers. And seller did mention he only wore this a few times. Does the ref # at the back rub off easily?

And I confirmend with the seller that he used a new box as he has multiple Rolexs and moved a few times so he lost a few boxes and used a new one. But papers are all there though as he mentioned.

Oh and regarding the clasp. Shouldn't it have 14k engraved or some code on it? Based on the pictures it doesn't seem to have any. But I think rolex may have made some models without engraving codes on it if im not mistaken? Would like to hear your thoughts about this too.

Thank you!

Hey gents,

Got some more clearer pictures of the watch. Im planning to go through with this, everything seems ok to me though and had a local watch shop look at it and he said everything seems got and just needs overhauling/cleaning on the movement.

What do you guys think?

More pictures of the watch
