New SONY DAP

I was really, really, really bad this weekend and ordered this! My Onkyo crapped out and figured it was time to upgrade. This should pair well with my Shure se846s, I ‘might’ upgrade those to the KSE 1200s. Only hesitation is the bulk though. Anyway will play around with the SONY and report back. Hope it lives up to the promise. I think it will!

Need to charge it 7-hours before I can play with it. Argh. It looks great plugged in.

Hmmm... feels amazing. That gold!

The chassis is made out of a solid block of oxygen free copper. After being machined, it’s gold plated so it doesn’t corrode. This is a fascinating piece of equipment.

Haha, I figured go big or go home with this one. Right now I’m using a pair of Shure se846s on balanced 2.5mm Silver Dragon cables. This DAP has a balanced 4.4mm output and I should get the adapter today. She’s been charging overnight and when I get home if all pieces are here I’ll be able to fire her up. I can’t wait!

This really is a superb product and I agree it’s great that Sony is still making outstanding Signature Series products. One day I’d like to get the SS headphones. They even use Kimber Kable inside the product as wiring. There’s an amazing story behind the product and the engineer who made it without being asked. He presented it and the sound quality was indisputably better than anything they have ever produced.

It’s reads (playback) everything from FLAC to DSD. I have a pretty decent collection but now more reason to build a bigger library.

I remember my first Walkman cassette player. First introduced in 1979!

Nice! I am not familiar with DSD files. Similar to FLAC? So you just plug your headphones into these? No other equipment needed?

Unfortunately for me (fortunately for my wallet), I don’t think my ears are good enough to truly appreciate true hifi.

It’s fine ‘as is’ with low impedance IEMs, but for higher powered headphones it requires an amp. Future investment for sure. Have my eyes on a TEAC. Sony’s SS amp is out of range for me right now. And so are their SS headphones. It’s a hobby and over time you build up your arsenal. I can’t wait to listen to the darn thing.

Funny you say this. I have watches sitting out in the wide open but I actually spent the morning frantically hidding this thing.

Very refreshing to see Sony making quality items again, indeed. Looks like a neat device you'll enjoy for a while.

Congrats! Top line there.

They sent me a review sample about a year or so ago and felt it was waaaaay too heavy/bulky, plus the much lighter and better button /case layout ZX2 sounded a bit better for my preference.

It had 256gb internal with another MicroSD slot for another 256gb. A tb would be sweet.

Yesterday I was supposed to get the 4.4mm balanced adapter. It never arrived!

So now the delivery has been updated to Friday. Argh.

I have this wonderful thing just sitting there. Waiting.

Luckily I found a same day on Amazon so placed an order for another 4.4mm and hopefully it will truly get delivered today.

Can’t wait to listen to this baby!

I did play with it last night. Loaded up a new firmware update and transferred all my tunes.

Finally!! My adapter just came in from an East Coast source. This little baby is the only one that is certified by Sony for this DAPIMG_0541.jpg. It’s manufactured by NIPPON DISC. Tonight I’ll report back on sound.
