5270G - to keep or not
I have owned the first series 5270G for several years but it remains unworn. Technically a fantastic watch with a great movement but for some reason it has never made its way on to my wrist.
Could this be a future classic (first PP watch to house the in house PC/ Chrono movement) or is it likely to just be one of those watches overshadowed by the likes of the Nautilus and Aquanauts. Any input greatly appreciated |

5270 is never going to be overshadowed by an Aquanaut or Nautilus!
Of course, if you don’t wear it then possibly time to change for something you will wear. No point having any piece you don’t ever wear. ![]() |

I also second changing to something you will actually wear. For investment purposes you can find something better than 5270G.

I fully appreciate the technical marvel behind PCCs however i think those complications are just not for me (yet),I think 5270 is a great watch but not sure it will ever be a sought after watch.
If you can sell it for a nice price i think it s time to make it

Hard one for me to sell, also wondering if the Jay Leno version will be collectable in future or shunned.

5970 already plateaued. 5270 is the first in house pcc movement for Patek. When the dust clears and all the craze of the nautilus subsides the 5270 will be a collectors piece and eventually rise in value. My opinion of course

Thanks for all the advice guys. I think I will end up posting it in the for sale section and will see how that goes.
Have a few major incomings this year so need to shift a few watches that don’t get wrist time.... |

There are too may 5270s and you can get one easily if you regret it. What pieces are you expecting?

I would keep it. The first G series is the softest on resale.

To your question, first rule- never sale a patek. Exception to rule- if you have a greater Patek ready to be purchased and you need fund. Exception 2- you can't afford keeping it. Exception 3- you are not the original owner and just picked it on a trader and ready to trade it in. About the future of this watch. This watch will be a collectible piece but most likely will take more time then usually. About the watch being overshadow by nautilus and aquanauts.. it's not happening and won't happen. it's like saying the popularity of the Porsche Carrera T overshadow the Ferrari 812SuperFast.. |

Patriot885 thank you for your detailed input. The ref will never be overshadowed from a technical perspective but is overshadowed from perceived desirability and residual value.
Compare the original cost of this to the 5740G and the secondary prices. This is a perfect illustration. |

I would let go and buy a Nautilus which is more practical to wear. The 5270g suffered from the popularity of the sports model.

Yes, i am keeping an eye on this market as i personally own one of the "popular". However, the reason for that is the retail price was law in the first place. second, the market is wider as more people can afford it. Even when a nautilus is the same price as a GC, the nautilus is most likely (as for now) to keep it's value, so you have to be with more fund to afford a watch that can drop hard in value. good luck in whatever you choose ! |

Unless Patek release a PCC in a Nautilus case (which may happen within the next few years), the 5270 will still be the flagship watch within the Patek lineup. |
