So I have a few Pilot Metropolitans than I love for the whopping $14 cost of entry. The fine line of the EF nib is awesome. But I am looking to step up into something that's a little easier to use day to day at work. Preferably the new acqusition will either hide the nib or be of a different shape to keep it from rolling off my desk as has happened before. I feel like this relegates me to a Vanishing point or maybe an Omas....... I'm pretty new to the non-technical pen world so any experiences/thoughts/advise is appreciated.

Well, OMAS is no more so there the only option is used.

Consider Kaweco, the Online Slope, Waterman Concord

I’m willing to spend a few hundred on something great but I’m not sure I can pop $900 on a 149 or anything like that yet....

Then there are also the faceted pens from Montegrappa, Nakaya, Stipula, Sailor and of course the Parker Facet pens.

I have a Montegrappa Nero Uno, it is great. I also have a Rotring 600, you have to get that one preowned. I managed to find one NOS and it is fabulous.

If you're willing to spend the money, Montblancs are considered great pens, and Parker makes a lot of great stuff for way less money.

If you want to spend a couple hundred and are looking for bang for buck, Japanese is the way to go, imo. Check out Sailor and Pilot.

Sailor has some amazing pens with 21k nibs for around $250, which is very hard to beat. I own this Professional Gear in bright yellow (they have other colors) and the nib is incredible:

Can't go wrong with a 1911 as well:

Another super solid pen is the Pilot Falcon, with its great 14k nib, at $150:
