5712 vs. 5164a collection options

Just seeing which people would prefer to own alongside an LVc. Given the market value difference I'm going to add a SS DaytonaC as well.

LVc and 5712

LVc, 5164a and DaytonaC (or DJ41 if I feel the need for something dressy)


I have a feeling this is going to be overwhelmingly LVc/5712, as that's the purists' choice. But I do think this depends more on lifestyle, age, wrist-size, etc.

I am new to Patek, so forgive my ignorance, why is the 5712 for the purists?

If you said 5711, I would get it.

And are you going AD or gray? Just curious.

oh, and for me, I would go 5712 and 5164. ditch the LVC.

I have LVc and 5164a in my collection. To be honest, I don't wear the hulk much....

Nautilus.

The bulkiness and metal fatigue of the Aquanaut clasp was an issue for me..
for that matter the tightness of the Nautilus clasp has its own issues.

But still I pick Nautilus for superior wearing experience.

Because I expect most to say Nautilus over Aquanaut.

And the 12 and 64a isn't an option, unfortunately. Not anytime soon anyway. The point of the thread was to compare 2 options of similar total value.

I’m not a huge LVc fan, but I’d go with the 5712. That said, I don’t think you could go wrong with either as the 5164 is also an absolutely stunning watch as well.

I'd pick the Nautilus and definitely keep the lvc. Both great watches with great dials. I never took to aquanauts but do have somewhat of a weak spot for the 5164a.... But passed on it rather quickly when I was offered so I know it's not for me... But some of the wrist shots I've seen....smokin'.

"Purist" might not be the best term to use here, but I'd definitely say the Naut skews more toward that side of the spectrum than the Aqua.

Can’t beat the 12. 64 also great but my smile is bigger when looking down on the twelve. The Daytona is also tops so you have to angle for that regardless.

from what I can tell, I think you are right.

certainly seems more popular.

I am lucky enough to have one of each. 5726 on strap and the 64a. They are both fantastic and I would be hard pressed, at this point, to pick a favorite. Which is saying a lot, because the 5726 is basically perfect imo.

Oh man, what I wouldn’t give for a revised clasp to put on my 5167! With that said, I still find myself wearing it more than my 5712 (not sure why).

OP, if you are going through an AD and paying MSRP, the 5712 is $40k and the 5164+D500 is $46. For $52 you can get 5712+d500, so for 13% more I would consider it an option if you find yourself liking the 12 better than the 64.

I’m not an aquanaut fan. I just don’t like the dial or the overall design. I was offered one (64) late last year and I passed. I don’t even like the 5968. It’s not for me....just my opinion. .

For a travel time Patek, I use my 5524 and 5990.

To answer your question, I’d rather have a 5712 and an LVc.

For me, the 5712 has always and will always be my favorite Patek....period. It’s just right in so many ways.

12 and LVc and then save for a 64, if you are staying in SS. I like/own both the LVc and D500 but the sunburst beats the non-panda dial for me.

Neither are exceptional, but the market has gone crazy and it is what it is. Its hard to believe a pin bracelet watch can garner so much mania.
