Greeting from Dave in Sydney Australia!

Greetings to all,

I’m Dave Saunders, in sunny Sydney. 39, self employed as an IT Consultant/Contractor (All started with the commodore 64, that’s a long story) ok gadgets in general

I have been reading through all the different sections of TRF for a while now, and WOW, I get a fantastic sense of community here.

So I’d like to share my little bit of history with you all.

I’ve owned lots of different brand watches from omega, Seiko to the jewel, my first Rolex purchased in 1994 from Langfords in Brisbane, My TT 16233 DJ.

I use to walk past Langfords every day on my way to work, ok it was a little out of the way but there was a good reason, had a few friends who owned a Rolex, I knew it was only a matter of time before I gave in

I vividly remember the day I boldly walked in and spoke to Giles and began to look through the different watches.

I had in front of me so many to choose from but for me personally the 16233DJ was the icon of Rolex watches (Was also a popular model for colleagues and friends).

So the deal was done, this watch has been with me through so many phases of my life, good bad and ugly

I’ve also owned and sold a few other Rolex's in the past 10 or so years, I still have my collection of Seiko autos and digital, a couple of casios even a few old LED watches, they all have sentimental value as they were gifts from people close to me.

A couple years ago I purchased a SS Sub (Could not believe for a larger watch how comfortable it feels on the wrist) which I wear quite often and my DJ is my dressy special occasion watch. I’m wearing my DJ right now! Its always going to be my favorite!

This next comment will ring true for all those married My better half (Jenni) recently told me I could buy another watch in May, hmmmmm I wonder what naughtiness I could get up to at the local dealer

Well, I apologize if I have gone a little overboard ;-) but I feel like I’m getting to know you all just by reading posts, seeing reactions and watching friendships. Considering I stumbled upon your home,’TRF’ a few months ago its an awesome stumble

So a very warm hello and huge thanks for being here!

Warm regards,

Dave Saunders.

Welcome to TRF, Dave. With that kind of introduction, you will definitely fit right in to our friendly family. So stick around and join the fun here.

Oh, and my Commodore 64 is up in my attic right now, gathering dust, waiting for a call from the Smithsonian Institution's ancient artifacts division.

Thanks for the awesome welcome, Nice to meet you all, Heres to new frineds!

Rockrolex, I still have my C64 :-) not to mention atari 2600 and a collection of game n watches heheheh sounds funny considering I'm 39 going on 18 :-) as you can imagine my wife shakes her head quite often, reminds me a quote from Jim Carey in Bruce Almighty - Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes. :-)

Unclesallie, I dont think we get the show As The World Turns here in Oz just hope its better than our contribution to the world of soaps heheheh Neighbors and Home and Away :-). Am I a flipper? :-) if it's romping around at the beach with Elle Mcpherson like the picture, I'll buy that for a dolla :-)

Cheers again guys,

Chat very soon.

Dave.

Hi Rob,

Man do I miss Brizzy, try to get back up there as many times as I can :-)

Grew up in good old Redcliffe :-) That was the life, All professional through the week, did silly things like hung around the redcliffe 7-11 on a Friday night with all the hoons :).

That all changed when I met the other half in 97, couple years later moved to Sydney LOL

Have a good one M8,

Dave.

Cheers Ryan,

Doesn't matter how good you are or how well you do :-) The wife always gets the last say :-)

I'm pretty lucky compared to quite a few of my friends, Jenni lets me get away with a few things here and there, maybe in a few months of being good I might have a GMT on my wrist :-)

Dave.

Hi Dave

Great to have you on TRF. I am from Gordon me self. Live in Tokyo now.

My first Rolex was a hand wound Precision bought when I was a Uni kid, the next one was a DJ which my son in Sydney now wears.

The DJ is the icon of Rolex Ltd. Today the Sports watches are taking over, yet the DJ rules supreme in terms of sales per model.

Cheers

Hi Imtiaz ,

Great to be here, Meeting some awesome and knowledgeable people.

My Wife, little one and I are in Georges Hall, Nice and quiet :-)

My wile and I dropped over to Tokyo just before we had our little girl, Jen loved it there, and I spend a bit of time working there in Osaka many years ago.

I do like the sports models, but still love my DJ, to me its the most recognizable model, I have to admit I'm certainly starting fall in love with many of the earlier models the older I get.

Its a pleasure meeting you, catch up again soon.

Cheers,

Dave.

Hi Dave

Georges Hall, yes with the big Olympic Veledrome. I know it well. Got a mate of mine living there and we drop in to see them on and off.

Having lived in Kansai, do you speak and Japanese? You got to come to Japan now, the prices of Rolexes are the cheapest in about 7 to 10 years. But the mag. I purchased today (Mar 02) shows the prices starting to creep up.

Cheers

Hi Imtiaz,

There has been a change here as your mate might have told you, we live on the Bass Hill side of Georges Hall, Caroline Crescent, recently they have knocked down the old drive in, lots of memories gone and they are popping in a housing estate :-( We have dinner at the handlebar, restaurant at the Velodrome, good place for all the family to get together.

I unfortunately don't speak Japanese I'm stuck with limited French and German ;-) from my early childhood, My Brother in law Dave has been learning Japanese for a few years now and has been back and forth quite a few times. He has recently started dating a lovely girl from Japan, so he now gets to practice his skills with Japanese that is :-)

I did work for the education system between here and Japan back in the mid 90's and fell in love with Japan, I miss traveling over there so I'd love to take you up on the invite, we have a little 2 year old so the only travel I can do these days is nationally and thats dwindling now, we're about to start trying for our second little one so that should ground me just a little more :-)

The price increase is inevitable, just means I'll have to ear a bit more (Wife depending) to get the next watch :-) we are feeling the slowing economy more and more here as businesses are putting up with the technology they have instead of getting me in to upgrade networks & servers, I'm spending more time patching old systems. Just seems to be the big banks that are spending up big *surprise surprise* :-)

If your ever over this way pop me a message and pop over for a coffee or two :-)

Warm regards,

Dave.

HI Dave

Is the Drive in Movie theater still there. That's an icon too. never been in there but I drive past very often on my way to see my mate, I think it he lived in Josephine Cres.

Mate could you check out the AD prices for the Milgauss Black and GV for me please.

I back to attend our daughter's graduation from Sydney Uni and for a short holiday end April. If the prices are good, due to the exc. rate I would like to get a Milgauss.

If possible let me know.

Cheers

Hi Imtiaz,

Sorry to say the drive in gone forever :-( I can't believe it myself, there is only a huge housing estate popping up now :-(

I'll see how my travels go in the next couple days, they usually take me through the city so I can check prices at a few locations :-)

See if I can talk some good deals (cross fingers)

Cheers,

Dave.

Dave, mate just got back today from 3 days in London, Rolex prices there are a mixed bag. Some very heaps cheaper than Japan, others were 20% dearer.

Mate can you check out the Sydney price for the Milgauss Black and the LV and the Yachtmaster Platinum Men's for me.

Also which stores give discounts? My wife is coming to Tokyo in May and I could get her to buy one and bring it back to me.

Thanks heaps
Cheers - Imtiaz
