Crazy to install correct parts for 1675?

As some of you know, my father gave me a 66' 1675 but has replacement bezel and service dial/hands.

I have the original bezel but would I be crazy to search for correct gilt dial/hands and install it on the watch he gave me?

Is this a replica bezel?

If it were my watch, I'd try to source correct gilt dial and hands as well as a correct bezel. I understand that won't be cheap, but you can do it slowly over time if necessary.

A loose Gilt Dial is going to easily be 7-10K in decent condition,Not worth it.

No. You can't buy the dial your dad owned. But he did own the service dial currently on it. That'd be good enough for me, plus original dials are stupid money these days

A lot depends on the emotional side of the story. If you attribute great sentimental feelings to keep the watch your Dad gave you, then leave it alone and enjoy it.

If instead it was just like a hammer, screwdriver or other tool he gave you, then have at it.

Of course the comments about financial hit for an original dial are true. And yes, I’d lose that insert if you’re fixing it up.

Does the dial or hands glow after being in the light?

Swap inserts

If you have the original bezel which I take it you mean “insert,” then I would reinstall it ASAP...your 1675 will look much better. Afterward, I would simply enjoy it as-is. Why? Because there’s a lot there to enjoy!

Thanks all-

The watch does have a sentimental side to it and it’s my daily but it’ll still mean a lot to me if I swapped the dial to correct period. I figured I’d turn one watch into two over time, if it made sense to do so.

Its currently with Giovanni Pasaqualla SF Independent for a movement service and it hit me earlier to have him install reinstall the original bezel, then I thought about finding a correct dial..

on reinstalling the original bezel insert. I’m sure it’s faded, but will now be original.

No, I wouldn't change the dial, for a couple of reasons. The service dial is "correct" for this watch. That's what Rolex would do routinely until us vintage nuts came along.

Even if you could source an age-appropriate gilt dial for your GMT, that dial would have nothing to do with your watch originally. How is that more "correct?"

I would keep as is, you have your Dad's watch and it's honest; keep it as is.

Keep the dial in the watch. If you swapped the dial out and lost it or it got damaged you would regret it later.

I made the mistake of getting rid of/swapping the dial in my dad’s Datejust which I regret quite a bit.

Insert will change the watch, I’m still curious if the hands are tritium or luminova.

A lot of great advice everyone. I’ll probably leave the dial alone and swap the insert back once I get the watch back.

@teckno I’ll get a pic with the lights for you when it comes back to me.

How did your dad give it to you?

Like it is? Ok.

What’s more important - impressing a esoteric forum of watch enthusiasts who you’ll likely never meet with pics that people view and comment about when they’re sitting contently on the toilet or keeping the piece as close to the condition that your dad owned it when he gave it to you?

False choice? Maybe. But I think the answer is still obvious, chief.

Yes. Keep it as it is.
Buy a gilt GMT if you want one. Whole, and as original as possible.
Wear your dad's serviced/updated watch with pride.

Man, I’ve missed this watch! I Finally got the watch back from Giovanni and very happy with the service. Here are the pictures under a UV light @tekno and one with the original insert installed.
