Buying a 16610 - how are the values looking? help!

Hey everyone,
First off, let me be clear in saying that I don't see watches as investments at all. I buy them because I love them. However, at the same time, I'd want to get something that I love and that will not kill me on value when I may or may not trade it up at some point.

I haven't bought a rolex before but I am looking seriously at a 1990 16610 submariner. This particular watch comes from a friend with everything, including original warranty, original box, original everything else. It is in great condition with hardly any scratches or dings.

I know they made a whole bunch of 16610s but this one is obviously one of the better examples. Now can I be sure that it will hold its value or maybe even go up a little, based on your experience? I'm pretty young and in college, so I haven't kept track of prices over the last 10 years.

I want to keep this watch for at least 5 years but I think I will trade up at some point and I want to make sure that I can get what I paid for it (which is around 7k) adjusted for inflation at the least. What are my chances? How have 16610 values behaved over the last 10 years? Thanks!

I can see the price of five digits pre ceramic sub increase in the last couple of years. Rolex made many of this sub date but if the set is complete and correct set. It is still worth to consider in my opinion.

This sub date is also classic and perfect as first Rolex!

Thanks! I really love this reference - its not too expensive and it doesn't have the maxi-case that I hate :D
