Increasing explorer 1 threads?

Ive noticed an increase in explorer threads. Anyone else notice. Not quantitative. I have been increasingly drawn to this reference despite it being one of the more reasonably priced models.

Theres a list statting on this at the AD’s as well. I was surprised to say none the less. Also no discounts.

Could this be the stealth watch... that slowly creepa towards the $10k mark?

Well I just added to one :) thread and watch. :)

I like mine, its the one I keep thinking of selling to fund another...but I cannot quite let it go.

It is just so perfect! Doesn't look like a Rolex but is, the perfect oyster bracelet(comfortable and no PCL), durable as hell, in house movement for reasonable money. Too many pluses to name.

Its the perfect watch... i think this is my top rolex watch. And thats over the sub, day date, pepsis daytona and such. I think the weight is well distributed... not top heavy like the new 6 digit cases. Also the lugs are closer to that of the older references.

Dynamic as It looks good with other straps.

But it does look like a rolex.... just not a sub lol. The price point is also perfect

The Explorer 1 in my opinion is the most complete watch out there right now. Perfect size and proportions. It can be dressed up or down and does not look out of place in any setting. The combination of brushed and polished steel is dead on. It does not attract unwanted attention. However, it will strike a conversation with a person that has a discerning eye. The bracelet alone is a site and is extremely comfortable.

I have considered selling it to attain another timepiece. Each time I reconsidered. As far value, I purchased mine used and it not only retained value but has appreciated. Thus giving me a fighting chance to break even if I ever trade or out right sell it.

It's a great watch, I love it and considered it a few times. The Explorer is one of the few that seems to always be in stock so I think more people have started to look at it.

Of course there is a lot of enabling and influencing so it's easy to go pick this one up.

Must be that area, I see this in stock everywhere I went last year. Various ADs in Texas, in both malls in Dubai, in Madrid and Barcelona, and finally NYC...it's the one ss watch I can always count on finding. I just prefer the Sub No date over it.

It's a great watch. Right now it's the only 6 digit I'd buy.

Increasing explorer 1 threads?

It is a fantastic reference - to me, a true enthusiasts watch - like the original 5512/13 - 14060, or more modern 114060.

It’s a do anything, go anywhere watch and a timeless classic that will never go out of style.

And they are still pretty easily sourced from an AD.

It’s a go to reference.

It's easier to obtain than most SS models, so I imagine more folks are starting to see it as desirable. Thus, more threads, but honestly, I haven't noticed...

I believe the Explorer 1 with white gold 3,6,9 and short hands will soon become quite collectible.

I have my Explorer and was recently offered a 114060 at below MSRP from an AD (in a foreign country)... This sub was my original grail but I turned it down because I have come to realize my Explorer is perfect and the only thing I need

My Explorer has grown on me so much I don’t see myself ever parting with it.

For my needs, it’s the best all-around watch Rolex makes. I can’t see selling mine ever. I wouldn’t call it a stealth watch, as it’s been around for almost 70 years in one iteration or another. I don’t see it slowly creeping to $10k, though, unless some extreme event occurs. I think some people turn their nose up at it because it doesn’t scream Rolex and, relatively speaking, doesn’t cost as much as other references.its just perfect, IMO. I have a 36mm.

I sure am partial to mine. Chose it over the 114060 which I had the opportunity to buy at MSRP. To me the 114270/214270 is one of the handful of six digits that successfully bridged the gap between five and six digit while still maintaining a certain heritage Rolex feel. Some may feel the 214270 is too large at 39, but to me it is nearly perfect. I might like it better at 38, but certainly no smaller. It is just about the most versatile reference you can own. It is a fantastic addition for those like myself who will never own more than just a few pieces at a time.

Probably confirmation bias, you are interested so you notice it more, just like me now, I commented on the white Exp possibility thread and bang I'm now on another Exp thread straight away.

haha I just commented on another thread about this. We are seeing a lot of explorer threads! While the 214270 is definitely easier to acquire than a sub or other SS models I do believe the demand is increasing and its becoming harder to find! Yes maybe some guys are right and the demand is simply because its the only SS model people can get at the moment, but nevertheless it seems once someone buys one they fall head over heels in love with it!

A lot of people don’t realize/know this but a certain Explorer model is still one of the rarest and most collectible models in recent times. The Explorer “black out”

If you come across one of these you will have to pay way more than $10 k...

One subtlety about the 214270 is that the dial of the watch at 39mm is larger than that of the SubC or GMT II C at 40mm due to the much thinner bezel. I wouldn't give mine up. Understated, and a lot bang for the $.

People are tired of having to wait for a sub or gmt, so they’re giving the Explorer a chance and realizing it’s a beautiful classic! Expect an increase in $$

Yup. It’s a great reference, and only 6 digit I own.

It’s a watch that you need to see in person to truly appreciate.

My Explorer is the one watch I would keep. Like anything else, it's simply supply and demand for this easier to obtain SS sports watch. I am noticing more YouTube videos on it giving very positive reviews with hosts buying them for themselves. I expect if this keeps up the Explorer will also increase above the MSRP price in the grey market as supply decreases. One sold on a grey website for $740 above MSRP just recently.

I’ve been with this one for two weeks and I just love this reference. It is one of the most comfortable pieces I have ever worn.

Have to agree with the increase in discussion, threads, social media on this reference. I acquired mine last year and despite purchasing my grail recently and having other great pieces, it’s absolutely getting the most wrist time.

It is so comfortable, simple stunning dial and is the most perfect one watch piece. Great value comparatively speaking and genuinely think is going to become yet another hot Rolex, but then again what SS Professional models aren’t these days

Maybe its the Roger Smith effect! The famous watch maker from the Isle of Man. He is arguably the worlds most famous living watch maker. He makes about 7 to 8 watches a year completely by hand and they cost upwards from $200k.
His daily driver: A Rolex Explorer!
