Icon20 My Dilemma - 36mm RO vs 39mm RO

Hey Guys,
Looking to buy my first AP, a royal oak. Now I've read a lot that the 39mm AP's wear more like 42s. I have roughly a 7inch wrist and I prefer medium sized watches. I currently wear a JLC master control which is 39mm, but its a dress watch. I recently saw an AP RO Chrono (39mm) and it looked huge on its wearer's wrist. I was thing that a D-series RO 36mm like the 14790ST or the 15730 (dual time) would be a better fit but I'm not sure. Would really be grateful if someone could shed light on this.

To be honest the answer to: "Is this watch too big on my wrist", is very personal and subjective. You're going to get points of view that are heavily biased based on the person's personal preference and style.

IMO if you're coming from 37 or 39mm watches then the RO line may feel large, so the choice has to be a personal one. The simplest objective test is as follows: when facing a mirror do the metal ends of the watch (lug ends) extend past the edge of your wrist? If so then the watch is objectively too large. With a 7 inch wrist you can easily pull off a 41mm RO, but since your frame of reference is from smaller watches, even a 39mm RO may "feel" too large at first until you acclimate to the new "look".

My Dilemma - 36mm RO vs 39mm RO

I dunno, 37mm is terribly small imo. 39mm is the same bracelet iirc. My wrist is about 7.25

I bought a 1996 AP Royal Oak 14800ST for cost and availability reasons (no boutique in Ireland).

I have a 7 inch wrist... it wears slightly small but very elegant on the wrist.

The size does not bother me (and i own or have owned watches from 32mm to 44mm)

I would think that a 39mm RO or ROC would look perfect on your wrist. The “lugs” of the case of my 26022 do not overhang the edges of my 6.5” wrist. Yours at 7 should look fantastic.

Of course I’d recommend trying one in person but I think you will be happy.

6.25-6.5 inch wrist and my 39mm jumbo

37mm would look extremely small on 7 inch wrist imo

Might not help. It’s going to look awkward being a ladies’ combo and what not.
