The purists will probably hate me...

Just couldn't bring myself to pay the inflated prices of the 5 digit GMT Master II so I switched out the original insert on my 1995 Submariner for an aftermarket Pepsi insert. Probably get grief for it from some of the chaps here but I think it transforms the watch.

Many other companies have been doing non GMT 2 colour bezels for years, I wonder if Rolex ever though of a Coke or Pepsi Submariner?

Just not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, hey, it looks great! On another just feels wrong haha. As long as you’re enjoying it, I say rock it!

But to answer your question I believe the bi color bezel is functional specific to the gmt. But wouldn’t work or at least make sense, with the function of the subs timing bezel. So my guess is no Rolex won’t make a Pepsi or coke sub bezel.

You lose the timing ability of the bezel with no gain in function as you don't have the 24hour hand. Plus it looks weird.

It’s an aftermarket Submariner bezel

How is timing ability lost? Isn’t it just an insert?

It’s a sub bezel! Not gmt. Just colours are different

If it had the 24 hour markings around it then it would be weird

To each their own. But as other have mentioned. The bezel does serve a purpose to help with reading the 24 hour time and differentiate between day & night.

It’s not my thing. (Not a 100% purist either)

In my opinion, the bi-color bezel on the GMT doesn't make much sense either.

I wonder who determined 0600 was day and 1800 was night.

Well, GMT time did. Sunrise is at 6:15 am (0600) and sunset is 6:04 pm (1800)

It’s not just for looks.

But if you know that, why bother with coloring the bezel? The numbers on the bezel would tell you that.

It is your watch..

Still, anybody who knows watches will likely think that your watch is not real.

...and if we bought watches for the reasons we claim to, we wouldn't care what anyone thought.

Um... well a dive watch was used back in the day for timing before dive computers were around.

And you can also just do the very easy math instead of bothering to look at the bezel at all. Considering how many watch complications are completely useless, a two-colour bezel that's only mostly useless is actually a step up.

Functionality can be fun. These are mechanical watches. Practicality hasn't been the point in a long time.

It would make more sense if it had a 15 minute section of a different color than the remainder of the watch. I once put a red bezel on my 14060 because I loved the Tudor BBR.
