Ceramic bezels

Does anybody find the bezel hard to read in certain lighting? My dad's sometimes looks very dark

Can only say they’re utterly useless when it’s dark!

I have ceramic tt sub and GMT and I cannot say at anytime have I found the gold inlaid text on the bezel difficult to read.

Are you sure your fathers watch has a ceramic bezel? As the old aluminium ones over time fade and the numbers and markings become difficult to read.

In low lighting they seem hard to read

Yes ceramic just seems in certain lighting to be hard to see but then outside or in a well lit room it's fine

I have a few ceramic bezel watches and have never noticed a problem although it could be the liquid metal they use in the digit inlays that could be causing you a problem. I guess it depends on how the available light catches it.

I wash Rolex could bring back the backlit bezel design seen in 6524, maybe with the technology advancement they can come up with a durable design.

The scale is not meant to glow in the dark, so it only stands to reason that in very low-light situations, the bezel will not be easy to read, aside from the lume pip. If you want something meant to be read in the dark, look to a Tudor Pelagos, or a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, both of which have lumed bezel scales. That aside, I find the Rolex ceramic bezel scales to be very easy to read from any angle, in a variety of lighting situations. The engraved numbers and PVD platinum powder refract the light, so they aren't dependent upon reflection and therefore "pop" from any angle. Compare that to a mirror-like finish, such as seen with Omega's Liquidmetal bezels, which reflect, rather than refract; if they happen to be reflecting a dark background, good luck trying to read them without adjusting the angle to reflect something lighter.

In dim light or dark environment all the bezel engravings will be hard to read.

This is a new one. I'm with Tyler......
I have never under any circumstances had an issue seeing any bezel of any watch regardless of materials, unless it was dark or my eyes were closed, then yes it was difficult.
Solved this by turning on a light or waiting for daytime or opening my eyes.
This works for me best, I also recently got glasses as my eyesight is waining.

I’ve never had an issue reading mine in any light. I’ll be taking my sub on a night dive later this week I’m excited to see how legible the lume is.
