Hi,

So it’s rated at 20m, which is pretty weak. Does this mean it can’t a shower? I don’t my watches off at all and not planning to take this off when showering.

What are your takes? Why is it so low?

I only have the previous reference (25820st) so I’m not sure if it’s the same for the 41mm version but I believe it’s because the pusher is not screwed down. I wouldn’t use it while swimming or walking in heavy rain.

For a watch at that price point I would expect 20 metres to be .... 20 metres.

How many times would you venture below 20 metres?

My understanding is that 20M means watch can barely survive rain.

In all seriousness I would check with AP what they would recommend, its a not cheap fix if you get it wrong.

Lots written on the internet about what the different WR ratings actually mean - I don't think anywhere claims 20M to actually be safe for diving down to 20.0M

Would absolutely not take it swimming in a pool let alone scuba diving to 20m. Normally dress watches are 30M water resistant which is “splash proof”, I.e. you should be ok if you spill your water glass at the fancy restaurant and some of it splashed on your watch. Since this one is rated even lower than that it’s unclear what it means (is it ok to wash your hands with it on?) so it’s best to ask the AP boutique.

Here’s a handy little chart in this link from Govberg Jewelers. Basically, the rating understates just how water resistant a watch actually is.

Bad seals on a DSSD, Sub, ROO = wet movement
Good seals on a RO PC, RO jumbo, Patek 5170 = just fine

The water resistance rating is much less relevant than how recently it’s had a pressure test and the condition of the seals.

I’ve been in the pool / hot tub with my 50m 15202 many times. I have all my bracelet watches tested regularly.

Strap watches I avoid getting wet because of the strap anyway, not because of the good or poor water resistance rating.
