No BS. Bit the Bullet. Bought the "Grail."

Been a watch enthusiast every since I was a young kid... be it a Batman (the super hero) watch or a Casio digital watch, I've always enjoyed having a watch on the wrist. Felt like being a grown up.

Fast forward a bit... I've had the pleasure of owning several brands, Omega, Rolex, AP, Seiko, etc. They are all incredible pieces in their own right but nothing is more iconic as the Daytona (at least in my books). While many will automatically think it is because of Paul Newman or today's view of the Daytona (hype?), my perspective and excitement of owning a Daytona is different.

My father purchased his SS Daytona from the AD well over a decade ago. It was the piece he waited to buy, the one he was most excited about and the watch I remember seeing him wear every day (including today). The Daytona and it's 3 registers, the pushers, etc... the one that kind of started it all (the addiction)... resonated with me the most.

...

Since I won't be able to wear his watch . I went to hunt for my own.

I experimented a "new" AD route (build your "profile") making a couple purchases myself and referring friends and colleagues who also completed purchases. I tried the "existing" AD route which already had a "profile" that extends past a decade (family and relatives). However, all had consistent policy "upgrades/changes" in recent times. At least locally greed has taken over, ADs are blinded by foreign money, building a "profile" and "history" most of the time meant... how much money have you bought from me today... like literally today. Along with the not so secret bundling tactics, it meant no end in sight for the watch I truly wanted.

I decide to pursue the secondary market and finally was able to land one with a local trusted seller who I bought my AP from a couple years ago. Personally I like having a 3ish watch collection so its one in, one out... After making the process a bit more interesting with a good old hockey trade (player for player... watch for watch-ish)...

... I ended up with this beauty!

I waited a month before posting this to see if I get any buyer's/trader's remorse or paying a premium sadness... guess what? I don't feel it at all. It's well worth it and no BS was involved.

The best part, I get to match my old man!

Working on more pictures in the coming days or weeks. Feel to check out my instagram for the upcoming adventures: @mkcperspective

For now, enjoy these two:

Congrats on a beautiful watch! With the craziness on going at the Rolex ADs, I don't see an issue getting the watch somewhere else. As long as you're happy that's important

Congrats! My father bought his 116520 2/22/2009 from an AD (in my profile pic) and I now wear it 10 years later as he passed in 2016. I’m on the hunt for 116500 that will be my own!

Definitely working on this one. Hahaha... whenever I see him next I'll be taking a few pics. I'll throw in a third with my mother's too (if I can get her recently acquired Apple Watch off her wrist! )

Congrats. I really want a blro but I know the only way is the way you went. Part of me wants to say screw it and part of me says no. If it were a smaller premium I'd be all over it.
