John Mayer Talking Watches 2 interesting strategy

Just watched the latest talking watches from Hodinkee with John Mayer and it's a very Rolex heavy table full of watches.

Something I found really interesting was throughout the video, but especially clear around the 10:45 mark, is how he seems to be look to add pieces that aren't necessarily the hot watch of the moment, but the unique or interesting release that not everyone seems to be gravitating towards. With many here buying Rolex as an investment, and by that I don't mean something that appreciates in value but won't lose as much value as Omega or Panerai, I think he is on to something.

Heres a link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrXaGFCij1A

Wow!

Imagine that, a person that is actually interested in watches and how they look, function and wear. We could use more people like this on the forum!

Agree with the strategy, especially for long term collectors.

Unfortunately, I hate not being able to actually read the tachymeter, so the non-ceramic bezel Daytonas don't so much for me.

I have to watch it again but he said something about spending his money or having the money to buy the current 4 digit Daytona's/having this kind of collection. I really can't imagine there is a limit for him.

The money he is making with his albums and shows and everything else has to be A LOT. Enough to spend 2 million a year on these gadgets.

But in the end, what do I care or what does it matter. It's about watchessssssss.

The only Watch that is both interesting, unique and not a hot Watch would be the Tudor PO1.

I wonder if John Mayer is on TRF.

Mr. JC Mayer, if you’re out there reading this, post a pic of your custom Patek with your custom guitar!

I find John Mayer unbearably douchey as a human being, yet I am completely fascinated to see his watches and hear him talk about them.

Already on back order and has been for a while. I know my AD has 2 on order and it’s been 3 months plus now.

It already was trending that way. A few weeks ago an AD told me that combo was the only PM watch he couldn't order.

On a related note does anyone here watch his weekly "Current Mood" program on instagram? He recently had Dave Chapelle on with him. Guy is quirky to say the last (but who isn't here, right?) and always cracks me up!

Really enjoyed the video, crazy to me that someone who loves vintage Rolex so much would buy a AP Concept.

Investment value aside, I would take those AP concepts over any other watch on the table.

Lots of stickers on the watches they showed. Think JM leaves the stickers on or Talking Watches used some standard watch shots?

I’m a big Dead & Co and John Mayer fan. I own his signature Paul Reed Smith Silver Sky guitar which is amazing. Love the watches in the video. Very informative and impressive.

His comments on the Rainbow Daytona are hilarious and spot on (I think, I guess I'll never really know).
