New SubC Date losing 4 seconds/day
Hey all,
Picked up a new Sub C back in June of 2018, and notice now that I'm not wearing it constantly (have other watches in rotation) that it'll lose about 4~ seconds per day on average. Is this reason for concern? I suppose I should test what happens if I wear it/keep in wound up, as I'm guessing that would change things. Anyone else notice their unworn Subs doing something similar? Might be time to invest in a watch winder... it would at least keep the wear down from manually winding/setting time once a week or so. Beyond that, I LOVE this watch! |

You aren't going to wear your watch out by winding it and setting the time every so often.

if its a new watch and you barely wear it might not be broken in yet. the gears, oils etc need to break in and settle

As you said, keep it fully would and wear it for a month, then report back. You will have to decide whether its worth sending to Rolex for them to open it up--which they will since its not operating under their standards of +/-2 sec/day.

I have this problem with my Yachtmaster I bought new and wore for a few months. Loses about 4-5 seconds a day. But worried about service causing other issues

New SubC Date losing 4 seconds/day

Just remember that Rolexes bought before a certain date (I cant remember when exactly but it’s sometime in 2016) do not adhere to the +/-2 sec/day standard. You would have to refer to the older standard for those watches. I’ve been wearing mechanical watches for over twenty years and personally I do not bother if the watch varies unless it’s more than 15-20 secs per day. I just find the position that adds time and the position that subtracts time and then place the watch in the desired position at night while I’m not wearing it. This evens out everything. As far as I know, this is how we’re supposed to do it anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

How is the watch sitting when you are not wearing it? Watch sitting vertically will lose time, while watch sitting flat will gain time.

The new standard applied to all Rolex watches sold after July 2015. That included watches already in AD cases, so it stands to reason Rolex had actually been producing watches to this standard even before then. OP's watch was purchased in 2018, so +/-2 applies.

How long are you going without wearing it before you notice this degree of loss? My SubC is at +1 most days, but if it's nearing the end of its power reserve, it starts losing time dramatically, even though it's still running. It's just a sign it needs to be kept more fully wound. That could be your issue, as well. As others have said, keep it fully wound (top it off daily if need be), and observe it. You might find it's doing just fine.

My Sub gains about 5 secs a day. I just got my head around it and left it as it is.
Just wait for the next service. |

My sub has been plus 6 every day since 2008. I thinks its outstanding how accurate it is never varying no matter what I'm doing. Should say its on my wrist 24/7

You can always have it regulated. I’d honestly leave it, especially knowing you rotate with other watches ... I’m not sure I’d even notice a 4 second deviation

It will keep time and be used for its intended purpose? Otherwise what are you doing with it?

Leave it, opening can bring other problems, mechanical and cosmetic.

Leave it alone and enjoy it. It's a mechanical watch.

I’d wear it consistently for awhile, being fully wound, then check the accuracy. If still-/+4 I wouldn’t worry about it, and mention it when you get it serviced

I wouldn't send it in for being off by four seconds per day.
1) It costs money to send a watch into RSC unless the AD is willing to do it for you. 2) It take up to a couple of months once it's gone to get the watch back. Running 4 seconds slow isn't really bad at all. I had a watch run 11 seconds slow. I sent it in and pretty much regretted both the lost wrist time and expense. |

I suppose to most that wear mechanical watches their time idiosyncracies are part of the allure. If you want real accuracy, you can get a crystal based watch or use your iPhone.

If the time loss / gain is consistent, you are fine. I’m sure you can send in to regulate it if you are unhappy, but to go 4-6 weeks without it to save a couple of seconds is really up to you. If you have same wearing habits and it changes dramatically, then I’d send in ASAP.
