Icon5 Question for the true TRF'rs:

I know this may be an odd question - but does anyone here sell watches as a sole source of income? (damn, say that 5 times fast ) I just wanted to know because a) you're a tough crowd (which is OK - rhinoceros skin here) and my initial entrada into TRF was GUNS BLAZING;
b) I value your opinions - I think I can offer much to this forum one way or another.

Having said that, I will say this: oftentimes I feel as though I am walking on a minefield with folks here, because I see how fast people are stuck into the troll cage And I am no troll, but I do sell watches for a living, strictly. I CAN be in it for the love - and I do love watches. Mechanical. I think the only time I had a quartz watch was when I was in 3rd grade - one of those calculator ones - so I can kinda cheat on math tests (it wasn't that I was lazy, just not challenged )

So, wise TRF'rs please 'illuminate' me - how can I walk the fine line of 1) not appearing as another 'grey market' guy (BTW, if I am 'grey, I am DEFINITELY light-grey :) and 2) be able to share my experiences as a dealer, because that is what I am. One of the good guys, indubitably, but nonetheless a dealer. It isn't just a job to me - of course, I also collect. But with twins due in May - I 'may' (haha) have to downsize my collection of watches and guns and hookers But i went off on a side-road...

Oh, and if anyone wants to challenge the integrity of the grey market - I am ready to engage in a debate, but that could be a whole different thread

I await to be enlightened.

As you see from the above posts, there are a bunch of guys who post regularly and have a great sense of humour. I am still in my honey moon period as I have not been a member for two years yet. I, like a lot of others, came out of the gate way strong and had to learn to hold back. Most members that I converse with, it is all about trying to make the other laugh. I would say that 99% of the opinions expressed on the forum are presented in a respectful manner.

I think I understand your post, so here goes.

Now, if your reason for joining is only to sell watches; the members will see this and treat your accordingly. If you joined because you like the Rolex brand and you find out you like the members, then that will show in your posts. If you joined for both above reasons then you will have to walk a fine line when it comes to strong opinions, as to not alienate potential customers.

Finally, the members here are very smart, have good memories, funny as hell, and forgiving.

How you play in the sandbox is up to you.

That make sense - I did not join to sell watches at all - but I am sure an opportunity will arise where I go: "I have (name of the watch goes here) and the price is phenomenal!" It is at that point that I am afraid that I will scare some of you away. To tell the honest truth - my knowledge of Rolex is very limited, so one of the purposes for joining is to learn. You're either a 'Rolex' guy, or you aren't... As I mentioned, I DO love Swiss watches, prefer tradition (Breguet, Vacheron, AP, Patek) over trends - although sometimes guilty of going for 'gimmicky' watches (Romain Jerome, Urwerk, etc).

But thank you for your reply, it is helpful. Others so far - not so much

I think Bubba put it very well (surprisingly so for a redneck ; and don't worry, Jim, we have the world's finest collection of nutballs running this asylum - we don't need any more dixie cup savers ). if you came here to learn and have fun, that's teriffic. If you came to sell watches, you need to be very careful. We have a section on the forum for that purpose. Follow the rules strictly and it's OK. I will tell you, though, we don't allow commercial sales here. The people who sell are trusted members. So my advice is, don't come out of the gate in a rush to sell your wares.
