Opinions on the Superocean Special 44?

This watch does not seem to get a lot of attention, but to me, it seems like a lot of watch for the money; great depth rating, helium escape, ceramic bezel, beautiful bracelet, and great size (at least for my 7" wrist). The only aspect I do not love is the date and batons covering the 15,18, and 21.

I can obtain one of these for less than $3k pre owned. That seems like a steel for essentially Breitlings version of the Submariner.

Currently, the only other watch in my collection worth mentioning is a Breitling Blackbird blue dial with blue alligator strap. I want a watch with some black, and the Submariner is out of my range at the moment.

Is this watch a good choice?

The picture attached is the watch on my wrist at the AD.

It looks good on your wrist. You can try the new Omega Seamaster 42 which wears little big as well.

I bought my dad a Superocean 2 for Father's Day last year, and his looks so good, it got me thinking about these. I think they're killer pieces!

Nice, but no in house movement and less than 40 hour power reserve

Understood. If It was in house with a longer power reserve, it would be close to twice the price. The automatic helium escape valve, amazing depth rating considering the case thickness, and sub $3k pre owned price point made it a winner for me. I was considering Omega, but liked the look/price/size of this better.

You are correct, I have bought three different SO because they are just hard to beat for the $$$ on the used market. I've paid under 2K for two of them and $2500 for the SO II. They are a good deal at this point. I still say the Omega Seamaster is the best watch for the dollar at the $2500 range, but personal preference can swing the win to the Breitling.

If you can pull off the size, it’s a good watch. I think the only complaint most people have about this model is the retail price seems high for a 2824-based Chronometer. However, it’s a perfectly serviceable movement. You can also get a pretty good deal on a Tudor Pelagos—not quite sub-3K, but pretty close.

Looks good on you. I bought the blue version and think they look better with the indices rather than the numerals. Much cleaner and wears fantastic.
