Just picked up a blro last week at my AD

Could be a selling tactic to make you want it more.

What did you expect? It’s a SS Rolex. He/she wasn’t about to go to the back and pull 5 out and ask which one you wanted.

My AD said he’s received more BLROs in the past year than Polars.

I saw (and bought) a polar on display in a HK AD this week. Another AD with whom I have no relationship said I could get one in a month

I bought one in Panama a few months ago. They also had black but, I already have the 40mm black.

Availability entirely depends on location. At several ADs in the Bay Area, there is a 6 week wait for an OP39 white dial. However, a few hours down the road they are a few sitting in display cases.
So it is possible that a specific AD may not have seen an EXPII Polar in a while. |

I've been an "interested person" (on a list), for about 3 weeks with an AD I have purchased from. She let me know it would be a month or two but nothing like the BLRO. I'll be chatting with her (and two other ADs) today.
I've been looking at the 16710 a lot in the interim, though, and despite a nice one going for 10-14k, double what I turned down just a few years ago, I'm thinking a lot about getting one. Really about to walk away from new Rolex period (as if I had any choice). Maybe walk away from Rolex in general. A. Lange & Söhne is speaking to me. Loudly. |

Rolex sales tactics are souring me
I feel sorry for the ADs. Who thought of this shortage strategy?

Saw it on display at 2 ADs including one in midtown Manhattan a couple of weeks ago. Really doubt it is that scarce.

The best way to determine systematic scarcity is to see what BNIB copies are going for at grey dealers. If it’s at MSRP or higher, it’s hard to get. Lower and any scarcity is regional. Obviously, the further from MSRP you get, the more or less scarce it is.

It turned into a waitlist piece within a year so obviously It is scarcer than before and GM price increased a good 1000 euro last 8 months

The Polar EXP 2 was ubiquitous in AD display cases 18 months ago. It was just the watch in front of the Submariner (that was also ubiquitous, but universally more popular)..passed over by all except professional cave explorers and the contrarian WIS who liked the differentiation. Now that other SS references are limited in their distribution, FOMO is turning market attention to the Polar EXP 2. A formerly "meh" reference is becoming ...."OMG! They actually have one in stock" ! "I better buy it right now" ! or "Put me on the list for that awesome EXP 2"! 18 months ago or so, that would NEVER have happened. Rolex is selling more watches and more of a mix of references than ever before. |
