Hi, i'm brand new to the board and am about to pull the trigger on my first Rolex, a 14060M (D series) from 2005. The watch is in mint condition and comes w/ boxes and manuals but no other paperwork. I have negotiated w/ the seller and we have agreed on $2600. I'm going to sleep on it and if I decide to move forward will meet the seller at an AD tommorow to confirm authenticity.

How good of a deal is this? Great? Good? Standard? One of my favorite part of buying watches is the thrill of the chase and bargaining. Thanks for the help.

I'm no expert, but I was just at one of the well known watch stores in Paris France http://www.romainrea.com/en/ and saw the exact same model and about the same year, and the salesman quoted me 3500 Euros. I guess I could have talked him down, but if you make the currency conversion, you'll see that his starting price was pretty close to double what you're getting. Just to give you an idea.

Great deal considering no warranty paper...but the lack of paper makes me nervous...is the watch "hot?"

My first question is you say the watch is in mint condition is it brand new or pre-owned? Also if new will you you get a two year warranty? If this helps, I just purchased a brand new SS Sub 14060M(with a "Z' serial number) for $4240.00 from my local AD!!!

I bought 14060M in my own country, retail price at RM16,100.00 but discounted for RM14,000.00 flat.

The seller is an individual and the second owner of the watch. Is there anything I should be worried about? I've heard that some fakes are so close to the real thing that ADs have trouble identifying the fake without checking the movement.

Find authorized Rolex dealer with a watchmaker and have them open the watch and give it a once over. If they charge you a fee ask the seller to absorb the cost. 2600 is a good deal..

That is a good price.

There is no reason to be concerned at this point... missing paperwork on a watch a few years old is pretty common...

A knowledgeable Dealer is not likely to be fooled, but then, you need to know how knowledgeable the Dealer is. Practically any watchmaker can take the back off to ensure it is a Rolex movement so do it....
