AD Shipment Deliveries from Rolex

Question is: Every-time I talk to my AD about a particular watch, he will state that we have a shipment coming in will let you know if one is in the latest shipment...Don't they get a bill of lading beforehand to know what is going to be in the shipment or does Rolex just ship random models and the AD has no choice but to take them?

I have heard that they got the detailed inventory list days before they received the shipment.

But Rolex AD are now ranked after car sales person for their trustworthy

My AD tells me they do not know what’s in the box of shipments and it’s always a surprise when they open up the box!

That's what my AD says...though when I got my holy grail Rolex, he told me a week ahead, "I think your watch is in the next shipment". I think they say that in case a "more preferred" customer expresses interest and they need to please them.

Kinda mean to car salespeople... nowadays with the Internet, selling cars has become a very transparent industry, for the most part.

You’d think they’d need a paper trail ahead of the shipment to make sure what’s stated in the shipping paperwork matches up to the bill of lading or packing list.

I guess they like to keep everyone guessing, including the receiver of the goods

Have you been car shopping recently at a dealership? There are so many ways they take advantage from adding on extras at the dealership (like $500, for etching Vin on the window) to not disclosing monthly incentives from the factory they are given. The list goes on and on. However, I do believe there are reputable dealerships that can be found, it took us three for our Toyota.

According to my dealer they will place an order each year for the pieces they want, usually putting in the maximum quantity they can get. From that point forward they are in contact with their rep but do not have much visibility into what they will actually get or when. They hope to get as much of what they asked for, but shipments arrive once every few weeks and they do not get any indication as to what will be inside. They said Rolex is getting better about this and recently launched an online portal where they can more easily request models, but it generally is a surprise when the package arrives.

This is what I hear from every AD I know. They absolutely are also told not to request any SS sports as special order.

I visited 5 AD's today. Two of them are getting to see me rather regularly. Not sure about whether they know what is coming well in advance, but I know what specific day one particular AD gets its stock, and it's once per week, always that same day. At another nearby AD, one very forthright and super nice salesman told me sometimes there can be outright arguments between salespeople over which of their clients, sometimes people who are practically close friends due to long standing relationships, will get allocated the harder-to-get coveted piece.

My AD has also told me that Rolex will be limiting them to a “X” number of SS Professional watches each year. So if they get 5 subs in Jan and sold them all in a week then they will have to wait till next year to get new stock of subs. They will know how many pieces of each SS are allocated to them. Maybe this is a way to fight the greys?

They know what is being shipped, you cant just send a customer a box full of $300K of watches without an order.. IMO they can order most everything in the catalog the question is what they receive. I expect they are forced to order a mix of different models and materials and the mix is based on the watches that are hard to get. Example 1 Daytona you need 3 PM, 2 TT DJ, and 3 SS DJ.

Correct. My AD knows exactly how many SS pieces they will get per year. However, when these are delivered during said calendar year is dependent upon Rolex.

Mine knew 1 week ahead of time my LN was in the box! So for sure, they know little ahead of time !

They know in advance. My SA informed me the CHNR came in a few days before the day of delivery.

ADs in a not so populated state or town would be ranked last? or not necessarily?

Missouri AD vs NYC AD

To my understanding AD's do not know until they open the box. They can request but this does not guarantee anything. They do not get an invoice weeks ahead of shipment. The box comes and the invoice accompanies, payment due. Like any other business.

My AD told me they receive by email an invoice with a list of the watches being shipped a day or 2 before the parcel arrives and the balance due is paid by direct debit.
