Day Date 41mm Ruby Dial! ????
Abit of a weird one here guys
So a friend of mine has just purchased a 2018 Rose Gold Day Date 41mm with the Black Ruby Dial. He paid top money for it roughly £38k. The grey dealer he brought it from guaranteed him it was an original dial and was not put on after. He actually said the watch was brought from an AD brand new with the dial on the watch. Now a few things sound abit fishy to me. 1- As far as I’m aware the Rose Gold Day Date with the ruby dial was discontinued back in 2015. 2- The guarantee card that comes with the watch does not state Ruby/baguette dial. 3- I advised him to ring the official Rolex service centre at 19 St James Square and they said from looking at the serial number he believes the watch was not sold with that dial. Cut a long story short im trying to explain to him with out breaking his heart that the dial was probably put on by somebody else. I have heard story’s recently of people buying a normal Day Date for £22k and replaceing the Dial with the Ruby/baguette one and selling for £35k or more. Rolex service centre still sell the Ruby/baguette dial for £7k so I’m sure it’s easily done. If anyone else has experienced this or is aware of somthing similar it would be great to hear your thoughts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I’m not trying to do that at all. Hence me saying “not trying to break his heart” however I won’t sit back and let a friend get ripped off. Would you sit back and say nothing if a friend purchased a watch without knowing it was not authentic? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Authenticity is in 2 parts here. If the watch and dial are both Rolex, then they’re both authentic. Being bought separately doesn’t make it any less authentic, particularly if it’s in the correct serial/model range. There must be countless Dates/Daydates with changed dials about. If your friend is happy with his purchase, then let him be.
Now, if the dial is aftermarket.....
