MB 149 trim suggestions
Hi,
planning on a Mont Blanc 149 to re live my school fountain pen days though use the computer/phone more often these days for notes, mail, etc:). Hard deciding between the gold, rose gold and platinum trim versions. Which one do you prefer? Any suggested dealers in Australia overseas? I see they don't appear much on the used pen market else wouldn't have minded a well loved one. See David Jones has them here as also pensdeluxe https://www.davidjones.com/home-and-...Gold-Trim.html http://www.pensdeluxe.ashop.com.au/L...ortDirection=0 Also do the gold/rose gold trims fade over time? Thanks

Prior to other acquisitions, I was strongly planning on buying the platinum trim.

I opted for the rose gold but that's just because I didn't have any rose gold trimmed pens. I haven't noticed any fading. If this is going to be a one and only, I would go for the color metal you wear most. For example, if you usually wear a steel Submariner Date, I'd go for platinum.

I have the rose gold 149. No fading so far(6 months)
I felt that the platinum just made the pen look like those pens hotels give out and the yellow gold is too common. (Probably excuses to convince myself though) Get what appeals to you the most. |

I would recommend against rose gold since the rose gold is plated on top of gold (even though the nib is still 18k gold, that rose gold is plated and can flake out).
I would just get the normal gold 149. easier to sell in case you want to flip it. P.S. I recall seeing David Jones discounting their Montblanc range by up to 25% in the stocktake end of FY sale. |
