How much is a New from Rolex AD Explorer II?
hello everyone
I recently just got a voicemail that the Explorer II put myself on the waiting list for has arrived, but I'm in a small problem right now. I've recently been helping my sister and her husband moved into a house because they was homeless for a while and I need to know if I have the exact amount on me before I even attempt to purchase it because I don't wanna see the watch in person and not be able to bring it home it's an Explorer II 42mm white dial (extra question... does the Rolex AD take deposits...? I'm guessing not but I'm desperate here I put myself on the waiting list 3 months ago I wasn't expecting helping my sister and having the watch be available at the same time) Sent from my SM-G970U1 using Tapatalk |

$8100 USD plus tax unless they give you a discount and yes some do take deposits but in your case they will more than likely want the full amount since you were on the list IMO.

Obviously I don't know your personal financial situation and believe me when I say that I am not trying to sound rude when I say this, but there are some things to consider.
- You put your name on a waitlist for watch without knowing how much it cost? - If $8000 turns out to be some amount that puts strain on your finances to the point where you can't help your family, or cover other expenses, then I honestly don't think you are ready to buy the watch. - Money spent on ridiculous things like watches should be money that you could throw away and not feel anything. People wonder why Rolex owners tend to have such bad reputations....

I have a few Rolex watches already, the plan was to add to my collection and when I put my name on the waiting list I was prepared to purchase it then but unfortunately that's not how it works with Rolex watches. I currently have around $5,000 on me to spend on myself. I have more money coming in soon but not today. I put myself on the waiting list because I didn't see all these things happening to me at once and then the watch being available at the same time. Trust me I don't think anyone would EDIT: and about the pricing. You said why put myself on the list if I didn't know the price... does anyone know the price when being put on the waiting list for a hard to obtain Rolex? I guess I should've asked back then but it wouldn't really matter because the plan was to walk in and buy it whatever the cost. The reason I'm asking now is because I'm short not because I'm being cheap or something along the lines. Again, I own a few Rolex watches (none of which I'd like to sell to obtain the EXII) Sent from my SM-G970U1 using Tapatalk |

just wait it out. this is not a hard to find watch. if you want to save a little cash, there are a ton on the secondary market below list and no tax.

If you can't buy a watch with truly expendable income, you shouldn't buy it. Just because we all love watches doesn't mean we can't be smart with our finances.
Try a Tudor, TAG or Omega if it's more in your budget.

A quick search on Rolex.com would have provided you the answer without subjecting yourself to the scrutiny of your decisions, and no one knows the tax rate in your area, so it's actually impossible for someone to give a 100% correct answer.
As for the AD taking deposits, since we don't know your AD and the policies, only you can find that out. Some do, some won't; it doesn't hurt to ask. Good luck... |

I recently bought a polar exp II. They also had a black. As I didn’t really care, I offered 8k straight, take it or leave it. The AD made a call somewhere (maybe boss) and said “ok”. It was about 8650 with tax apparently but, I paid 8k.

Two plays come to mind that might help your thought process. I know you want the watch now. If $8k puts too much of a strain on your budget, find a second-hand one in great condition. That'll knock $1k, maybe more, off of your expenditures. Another scenario is to put that $8k in a 1yr mutual fund & reap the rewards. FWIW, my Milgauss fund is USAUX from USAA. It is currently at +20.35% YTD earnings. If you took your $8100 & put it in that for a year, at the current YTD rate you'd earn $1648.35. That puts your total at ~$9750, which affords you a nicer cushion should you purchase new. Just me 2c, I'm not an investment advisor.

Of all the SS models, I tend to see the most of YM's and Explorer II's. Dont sweat this, there will be more. Just answer the AD and say, I'm still game but need to pass on this one. Call me on the next one. They'll follow up with you and it's not like they'll stop making EII's.

Yes, The prices are listed on Rolex.com which is what AD's list for from all of my experiences which are plentiful. Either way I would hold off if I were you. Watches come and go and family is family. |

My advice would be to pass for now, and wait until you can more comfortably afford to buy. The Explorer II isn't as easy to acquire as it used to be (no SS Rolex is), but it also isn't in the same tier as the Daytona, BLRO/BLNR. Hulk, etc. You will get another chance if you just let them know you're still interested, but need to pass now due to unforeseen circumstances. I'm sure they will understand, and appreciate your honestly. You can also check with other AD's in the area when you're ready. You may even luck out and find one in the case. Like I said it's rare with the Exp. II, but not impossible. Good luck! |

I didn't figure you would. You're right though it's not the end of the world. It's just a watch.

At the end of the day, 3 months isn't too bad to wait for another. As for the sister... I have one of those too. Priorities are priorities no matter how inconvenient they can be |

If you need to “find” or “come up with” the $ for this I’d say it’s not a responsible time to purchase a luxury good. Just my $0.02. Please don’t be offended but needs need to be put ahead of wants at times in life and sounds like you are at a point in which that applies. Don’t worry. We’ve all been there or are there at the moment. It’ll all flip at some point at which time you can feel no anxiety about acquiring a Rolex.

There will always be an obstacle (not just your sister) getting in the way from your Rolex, car, iPhone, illness, the list goes on. You can't gave the world. you have to live your life your way and other peoples problems are their problems not yours, unless you want it to be your problem too. You can help, but you still got to live your life. heck, if you want it, use your cash and charge the rest, pay the CC off once you get your cash.
or wait for the next one and enjoy your other Rolex and help your sister until then. |

At the end of the day, it’s just a watch. Wait until you’re comfortable purchasing. Family first.
