I have my 34 year old Datejust and will never part with it. It has far more sentimental value than monetary value. I don't wear it anymore, but will never part with it. I would regret it the minute I let it go.

You never sell the first Rolex watch you get or purchase. I think many people have that emotional attachment to it.

Would not really mind ... keeping any watch off the wrist ... unless it’s investment purchase / unique models what has turned to be special watch; for later yielding... doesn’t make much sense... sell it and fund your upgrade ...

My 16610 stays, forever. I’ve flipped others. But the sub stays

I sold my first one, a 16610 sub date in '84 only a few months after I bought it. Hated it. Sold it to a friend who still has it so occasionally we get reunited. Zero regrets.
My 6309-7049 Seiko that I bought for $195 while at University in 78, that's another story, it's the last watch I'd sell. |

I have no attachment to material goods or services. I also see heirloom items as a burden for the people that end up with them. I am sentimental about people but other things are just objects. Don't get me wrong, I love the watch hobby and my watches but it is the monetary value not the individual item that I want to retain. I would and have sold my first Rolex and enjoy the emotional detachment from watches and other material goods. It can help to keep a clear head and leave emotion out of it. Passion for the hobby though. Go get what you want, enjoy it and when you want something else, go for it.

Sold mine. No 2nd thoughts. If it was given to me or had some sentimental value, that is one thing. Otherwise, it’s just a watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I sold my 114060, which was my first Rolex, to fund my hobby. Never looked back.

A part of me wishes I would have kept mine but at the time, the only way to get a new watch was to sell the one I had. No regrets at the time though.

This is correct. It’s forced sentimentality. I have a few watches that actually mean something and I wouldn’t sell, none of them are a Rolex

My first Rolex was a birthday gift from my dear father. It will never be sold.
The first Rolex I bought......long gone, without a second thought, or regret on an upgraded Rolex. I think the decision is easier if there's no sentimentality attached to the piece. But hey, it's your choice

It depends on how sentimental you are and how much you like the watch. For me if it isn't getting a lot of wrist time it's best off gone!!!!

My first Rolex is still my favorite and #1. If that wasn't the case then I would be open to the idea of trading for something better.

I bought my first 114060 Rolex off of craigslist for $5375. Started buying a few others and decided to limit the number of watches I have. I'm not sure about others, but I'm insuring them, so for my I don't really want to have a bunch of expensive watches sitting around. Got the SD50 and love the size, so didn't see the Submariner getting much wrist time. Sold for $6900. It wasn't emotional much for me to let it go. This is like a game to me. Fun to play. 16610 is being listed today.

Personally no, I saved hard for my BLNR and waited patiently for the AD experience. And I love it too much to part with it, scrapes and scuffs and all. Guess that wi be my biggest do I don't I when it's due it's first service, as to polish it or leave the scars intact.
Don't plan on selling either I now own as the second I bought with money left to me by my grandmother. Now in the process of saving hard and waiting for no.3 When I picked up the first I never had it in mind there would come a second. Now I think daily about what I'd like to add. Next will be Sub LV, and then I'd really like a bi-colour DJ 41 Everose with chocolate dial after that, would love an Everose Daytona on Oysterflex, but that's probably going to remain a dream for a while. They'll all be keepers. To each their own though, I have a brother in law whose been through 3 including his first since I got my first, he always trades in at our local AD. others...
other lesser watches have come and gone and it was part of a process, nowadays I think of quality over quantity, unless your in a fix and need the funds then id say hang onto it, I'm sure you'll work things out for your self, all the very best.

Yeah, personal decision. I sold my first Datejust when it wasn't getting any wrist time and have no regrets.

Depends whether it’s been handed down to you from a family member or if you bought it yourself. I bought my first Rolex 2 years ago kept it for a year and decided it didn’t suit me so traded it for one that I preferred. It was the best thing I did as I now have one that really suits my wrist. It is definitely possible to buy the wrong one for your wrist first time buying one......if it was a gift then definitely no, unless it’s from an EX that you can’t stand the sight of lol

I'd keep it personally. In a few years, you will likely regret having parted with it.
