Black Bay Steel

Hi,
Just about to pull the trigger on this watch.
I need a more casual holiday and swimming watch which is beautiful up close but not bling and subtle at a distance.
I need a date.

Just wondered on views from long term owners of the BB Steel ?

many thanks

I have the Black Bay Blue in steel.

Well made, nice watch, it is however a very thick case at 15mm and with the solid links quite a heavy watch. Having said that I really like mine, I chose the blue as I don't like faux patina. If you wanted to swim with it, maybe a rubber strap?

If its a weekend watch and not bling you want, what about a blue pelagos?

For some reason, I dont like the shade of black and blue on the Pelagos. Look a bit washed out to me. Nice watch though ...

I'd go for the blue then personally, added bonus should be a bit of discount if a cash buyer as its been out a while. Everyone is chasing a GMT lol

I have owned various Black Bays since they were introduced and they are very robust and a lot of fun to own. They work on the bracelet, NATO or OEM leather and after market straps. I believe them to be a lot of value for the money and a no brainer for ownership. Go for it.

I had a Black Bay steel. Love the look of it, the steel bezel gives it a real tough and tool watch look. It was also incredibly accurate, however it was just too thick on the wrist- a common problem with black bays. It has got a fairly flat caseback which means the sides of the watch are very thick, and I never could quite warm to the rivers on the bracelet.

I don't have any experience with the BB Steel, but have you considered a GMT? Seems to meet all your requirements

If having a date is a must. Black bay is probably not your best watch.

The advice on this thread is useless when half the responders dont even know the watch being asked about.

The BB steel has a steel bezel and has a date. It isn't a coloured bezel Black Bay

And to the OP: the steel is a great watch, I tried one and was tempted but as a BBN owner already adding the steel seemed a little pointless. The date would be useful as I really miss it on the BBN. Over all the Black Bays are great watches. Go for it.

It's the best looking watch in the Tudor lineup. I owned one for some time and regret selling it. It's amazing on the wrist!!!

Jeez Someone said it right.
STEEL bazel Blackbay with the date!!!

Anyway, I believe it’s so underrated and an absolute utilitarian watch.

I had a BB Steel, it was a fantastic watch.

I wish I did not trade it in!

Youll love it.

colonelpurple . . .

. . . you should try one one as it may not be too thick for you as has been remarked. You are not them.

My LHD Pelagos is thick-ish (0.57" / 14.45mm) and it is a total non-issue for me.

I almost never wear long sleeve shirts, but one I wore recently showed there was not a problem with it catching on the watch. The "sleeve-catch" is a major issue some folk have with regard to complaints.

If you want a Black Bay and want I date, you should consider the BB 41 S&G. The two tone Black Bay Black. Maybe it’s too bling for you, but it’s a nice watch.
