What Rolex did you previously despise that you are now fond of?

#1 for me was the Hulk...hated it in pictures, saw it in the flesh, HAD to buy it!

But one that I'm now kind of falling for is the Explorer II. Never understood the steel bezel, thought the whole thing looked bland...until now. I don't know what happened, but it was almost like a flick of a switch. I don't own it, but if there is a next one for me (I'm pretty content right now), I could see it being the next.

What about you?

Explorer II with the black dial, alway thought the Explorer II's looked kind of bland/tacky in photos but after seeing in person i think I want one! After seeing your Hulk I think that's next on the lists as well haha.

After Basel 2017, I was one of the people blasting the SD43 - too big, hate the cyclops, all the rest of it...and I inevitably tried it on my wrist on a whim and bought it in August 2017. I still love wearing it!

I never despised it; but I didn’t like the Blue Sky Dweller, until I saw one in person at my AD.

Despise is too strong, but Hulk for me as well. Saw a woman wearing one on a plane to Shanghai a few days ago, and was pleasantly surprised at the contrast between dial (almost black) and bezel, depending on lighting. If one could buy one at a reasonable price, I'd consider it...

Despise is a strong word but I used to not understand the draw/demand of the Daytona (like a decade ago). Now I find the 5 digit reference white dial to be one of the most attractive models Rolex made.

Not a big fan of the newer ref with ceramic bezels though.

I really disliked the Explorer IIs. I thought they were awkward and chunky. However, after seeing them and handling them in person along with all the wrist shots I see on here, I have fallen in love with them and would like to add one someday.

It just goes to show you that pictures really don't do a lot of watches justice. So I make it a personal goal to try on a watch before I say I absolutely hate it and wouldn't have one (I am still wanting to see the P01 from Tudor and the Code 11:59 from AP...)

Again despise a bit strong but the Explorer 1, bland, plain and small.

Even when buying was 50/50, after a few days, wow, perfect watch

YMII is growing on me. I wouldn't say I "despise[d] it," but I never would have considered it for me. But recently, . . . .

Stopped into the local AD where I purchased my Sub and they had 37mm Platinum Yachtmaster with rhodium dial. Was completely uninterested when I saw it in photos, but in person it was very striking. ‘Almost’ a bit too flashy for my taste, but really liked it nonetheless.

+1 thought it looked ugly and too much like a Datejust. Now, I'm chasing that watch

Couldn't agree more. I rarely buy watches now just based on pictures, because it works the other way. I can't tell you how many times I've looked at a watch online and said "next piece!", only to receive it and go "mehhhh".

Mine was the the YG green Daytona. Then I saw it in the flesh at my AD and walked out with it.

I wouldn’t say despise, but the Explorer never did anything for me.

Then I started noticing people’s pics here. Picked one up last Christmas and now it’s my go-to Rolex.

Didn’t like the Hulk so much, probably because I got that nickname for a while as young. But have warmed up to it and thinking I should embrace it.
