My Rolex AD is Ghosting Me

Like so many here on the forum, I'm on a wait list for numerous Rolex steel sport watches.

Every few months, I would write a pleasant e-mail to my AD, asking how life was treating him, and respectfully asking if a new sports Rolex was in my near future.

Now I never hear back from my AD...a bit rude I think considering how many watches, straps and OEM bracelets I've purchased from them over the years.

I know there's nothing they can do about the inventory shortage, but a reply would be nice.

Oh well, perhaps it's time to foster a new AD relationship.

I've heard worse. Guys spending millions a year who are on wait lists. You think it is just the little guy? No longer. But I digress go grey it is simply better that way.

Some years ago I was buying a lot of watches in a short time frame. The AD used to call me at least once a week with some "new" piece, often a Breitling. Once that SA left I don't get any calls but I do get responses to my queries. I email a specific SA who is "my guy."

I also put in appearances roughly monthly.

I'm no VIP by any stretch (around $100K) and it's crickets for me... I often take my mom to the mall so I see them at least a couple times a month but every time it's the same. "I didn't forget you... I'm still waiting..." They act as though they haven't received any SS in the last 3 months!
So yeah, if I want anything I'm going grey.

They will be fed up with folk pestering them a million times a day for hot model watches they cannot supply.
My AD told me that a particular guy calls on the same day at the same time every week to check if his watch is in, they intimated to me that he is bothering them so he will not get the watch.

You say you are on list for a few hot models so they will likely think you are a flipper. Ideally you would stand a better chance if you just asked for one watch only.

Mine did the same thing. They are only responsive if I inquire about an available piece. I no longer desire those hard to get watches anyways.

I think it really depends on where you live and what stores you are affiliated with. Where I live there are 3 AD's here. Two are the same chain and the other is a nice AD. I have not heard a peep out of either but have found a new AD who promised me that if I bought watches they would get me what I want. I did not believe it but in one month the sold me a CHNR and just got texted about a Pepsi 2 days ago. I cannot believe the difference between AD's. I hate it for everyone who cannot attain watches they really desire and feel fortunate that I have found one to be true to their word.

I’m disheartened to hear these stories as I have experienced the same. I work in an industry where customer service is paramount. It absolutely boggles my mind that people can’t reply to emails. These are simple things that go a long way.

It has come to a point where they tell you to politely eff off verbally and through facial expressions. I strongly believe it will come to hurt Rolex AD's some day in the future. Patience is the game here.

It has got to be hard when they are getting so many customers chasing them for watches they cannot provide.

That said, my AD was good when I was looking for a basic Explorer. But it took 8 months and I purchased a LNIB watch from the classified's here after 6 months. Couldn't wait...

And then when they see me wearing one of the watches I didn’t buy from him he tells me that he wishes I could have waited for them to provide it.

I chuckled.

The thing is, going to the grey market just reinforces the AD's behavior. It's quite ingenious on the AD's part, to be honest.

This thread makes me feel better, that shows you how bad things have become. My local Rolex AD claims they haven’t gotten a single BLRO or blue skydweller period. Not a little AD mind you. It’s trully kinda funny at this point. At first I played like I believed them, but over time started saying things like “wow hard to believe your still in business since you haven’t received a single watch to sell in over a year. Then I called their bluff entirely. Bottom line I used to be one of the few that tried to pitch giving the local business a chance to match back when greys all sold below msrp. Not anymore. Also jokes on them, a Rolex boutique (not theirs) is going in right down the street.

Move on. Been there and there are good ADs out there worth fostering a relationship with if you're in it for the long haul.

It's weird, but after buying watches through my AD for me, my wife, her mom, and my dad, I was suddenly told the equivalent "you're a valuable customer and you can now get the hard to find stuff."

...I'm out of money and kids are expensive.

It’s rough out there. They should at least respond. But I think they just get tired of saying no all the time.

AD where I got my black SkyD gets around one ss Daytona per month.12 a year and roughly 6 black and 6 white .Their waiting time (I refuse to use "waiting list".) is 5 years. That's the reality of high demand .

Your biggest mistake is "numerous" .You can get red flagged as a flipper at the AD or in the whole organization if they have numerous ADs.

Decide what you really want and it may come your way sooner.

I am not one for strategy ,relationship building, bundling, package deals, grovelling and other types of superficial cheap tactics .
If it comes my way..great.If it doesn't..too bad.
This philosophy has served me well.

8 months? Where do you live? I came across 2 of them in a 3 week period.

I’m done with ADs who are stuck up, lying through their teeth and borderline disrespectful - will likely use them again when I’ll be ready to purchase my DD so I can get a package deal with some desirable SS sport model that I can sell right away. Have to play the game as it stands.

In the meantime I have gone with grey dealers - much better experience.

Bottom line is that many ADs are at a position of advantage perhaps not experienced by them in recent times, in so far as they have a product (assuming they can actually get it from Rolex) that they can sell numerous times over and over, essentially to whomever they wish. Possibly a fairly unique position to be in in the wider competitive sales world? All sorts of promises etc can be made about lists and waiting times but these probably change on a weekly basis. Many are probably getting fed up with numerous enquiries and frequent casual walk ins, when in reality they already have their sale of their next sought after models covered'.

You say “sports Rolex”. Have you told the AD a specific model?
