How would you anticipate your AD's reaction if you were on the waitlist for a particular SS sport/professional watch, but showed up to the AD one day wearing an older version of that model?
Would the AD cross you off his (alleged) wait list, thinking that you're not going to end up buying from him after all? Would it make absolutely no difference? Just curious if anyone has noticed/figured out any correlations with respect to these instances. Thanks in advance! |

If anything, I would take it to signal that you’re someone who enjoys watches and isn’t just a “flipper”.

Not sure I understand this. I bought a BLNR from my AD earlier this year. Despite knowing that, they offered me a new BLNR, which I declined. Point is, they might not care at all you have an older version - they said I might want the new one because of the Jubilee and the power reserve, both of which I told them I loved about the BLRO.

just depends on your AD and your relationship with them. most reasonable ADs (mine included) understand the realities of the market. i'm always honest with mine about what i'm looking for, and that i might buy it elsewhere if i get the chance. and there have been a few times where my AD actually told me i'd be smart to try and acquire a model on the secondary market. i would simply tell my AD "hey, i was able to grab this older version to hold me over until you can come through for me with the newer one."

I don't think it would make any difference. It's all about how you handle yourself with your AD. As above, they might think you're a real WIS

Your AD would probably flog you on the spot.
Who cares what he/she thinks? |

I was waiting for a sub date. Bought a 5 digit m serial bluesy in the meantime. 2 weeks later AD tells me they have the sub for me - I declined and told them why. They congratulated me in the purchase, said no worries (obviously someone else will take it) and said they’d keep me on the list for a Pepsi.

There is a huge community of watch collectors, including myself. I have different version/colors of the same model.
All they care about you buying more and more. My AD has a record of all my previous purchases. |

Depends on the time of day I drop by. If in the morning, he's likely to say, "Good morning!" If in the afternoon, on the other hand, probably, "Hi!"

My AD offered me another SD43 a couple weeks after I bought mine. I'm pretty sure there is no standard AD experience as all sales people are different.

Traded emails w/my AD a month ago asking about a SS Daytona. Said she would get me on the list. I vacillated over the weekend on which dial... wait was estimated at 2 years... figured I am waiting 18 months on a Perazzi, so why not... changed my mind and asked about a SS Sub black dial/date... shorter list, but still a list. Took ten days and picked it up a week ago. Nice addition to the collection.

A sincere thanks to everyone who chimed in.
I've been on the "wait list" for 12 months, stopping by every few weeks or so. I still would very, very much like the new version to keep for myself, and if having an older version of this watch makes the dealer think I'm a WIS, then cool. Just wanted to make sure the dealer wouldn't go "oh I guess I can take you off the list" or something lol Sorry if the question seemed trivial, but given this market, I had to ask. |
