Datejust 116200 - When did it come out?
Been trying to search online for a timeline of datejusts, not having luck getting answers I wanted
I have the 116200 blue dial, roulette date wheel, 36mm w/ "maxi case" - I see there were 116200 models that don't seem to have the maxi case (roman numeral dials) - here's a link https://timeandtidewatches.com/in-de...olex-datejust/ so, what gives? when did the maxi case come out? why would there be the same model number? Is it like the 214270 w/ a MK 1 and 2? Experts, please weigh in Thank you |

The first paragraph says it’s a 16200.

I know that I bought my 116200 in the Fall of 2009. Someone on the board knows the answer, so be patient. You might also do better asking on the Vintage Forum, as those are the kinds of details that they specialize in.

Thank you for researching that Grady, I really appreciate you trying
Yeah, it's strange that information isn't readily available online. You'd think it's a simple thing, and yet we can't find anything. Hopefully someone will have the answer |

Having said that, based on my experience I believe the 6 digit (116200) showed up during “D” serial which dates back to approx. 2005-06. |

Thanks Leeh - didn't see "editors note" - glad you pointed that out
As far as 6 digit starting with D serial - I guess I'll go with that answer unless someone else says otherwise Thanks and have a great day |

The new style DJ came out at Basel 2006. It was show with a two tone silver/steel dial and a black / silver two tone dial. That was when it was changed from 16200 to the 116200. They increased the case "bulkiness" and dramatically enhanced the oyster bracelet links and clasp as well as the infamous polished center links. The Jubilee also was upgraded dramatically with a hidden crown clasp which is no longer available. This last year the stainless 36mm DJ was thinned down and brought back to its more slim proportions. The 2006+ DJ has a very solid feel to it. I have the Basel silver/steel dial "tuxedo" on Oyster bracelet. The red/black date wheel is a retro touch that was only used on certain watches. There did not seem to be a pattern other than some had them and some did not. I don't remember seeing them on rolesor models. I also noticed that some dressy white roman dial watches did not have it. My 116200 does have it and I love it.
I do not think the new 36mm DJ has a red/black date wheel option. P.S. bought that watch new from my AD for $4,000 USD shipped to my house no sales tax. I think it was a 20% discount and no sales tax. Wow!!! the good old days. |
