If rolex is for rich people then what do Patek owners do for a living?

I had this funny idea after I checked a Patek pricelist

Patek's are sooooo DAMN expensive and servicing a Patek is even worse

So any ideas ?

I think you've all but answered it. They do nothing for a living. They do not need to work.

Probably whenever they check their bank account this symbol shows up on the computer display

The infinity symbol

exact the same for me.

not rich, need to work for it.

Started with Rolex, afterwards went to the top which imo is Patek.

Just a little calculating.

Average wage of 2000 euro per month - same for your partner.
4000 euro per month ...
Not difficult to save 500 euro each
If I want to put 500 per month in my hobby ...

500 per month is 6000 per year

only 500 per month gives you more or less 140.000 euro after 15 year (15 years intrest at an average 5% per year)
So a watchenthusiast could buy a 140.000 euro Patek after 15 years saving.
Damn, 140.000 euro would be a few very nice Pateks ;-)

ONLY 500 euro per month !

I started collecting 20 years ago. :-)) But I won't tell how much or less I want to put into watches every month

Bus as you cas see, you don't need to be rich !!!

and another thing ... the servicing

A Gold 3-hand Patek (with date) will cost you more or less 600 usd for a complete overhaull.
I don't know the price for a Rolex sub but I don't think is will be much cheaper

For the last 10 years i dare say a few bankers and financers put some of their bonus money into a Patek, so with the governments bailing out these banks i can see the government now paying for a few Pateks

Of course there are ordinary people that just work hard but I always thought that the majority of patek owners are usually super-rich

There are definitely hard working people out there just like you !

One of my college friends his father is a CEO in an east european oil company and he has a couple of pateks go figure

The person who works hard and can afford a Rolex works for the guy who works hard and can afford a Patek .

No generalizing here - a wide variety of income levels can afford fine watches if it is a priority for them.

I think we all need to step back and realize that anyone who can afford a multi-thousand dollar watch is most likely in a better financial situation than +90% of the people on the planet.

Whether you consider yourself "rich" or not is usually a very relative thing. On an absolute basis I bet we are all doing pretty well.

Good point!

Not meaning any serious, deep-thought type stuff from my post. Having a Rolex is not a measuring stick for me.

Most of the world is a lot farther down Maslow's Heirarchy than we are here. If you can fall asleep in a warm dry spot without a growling stomach you're better off than most people on the planet.
I consider myself pretty lucky.

I like to see Patek photos. And VC and A. Lange, and....

I would never give that much money for a watch, though I am a watch freak.

And both Patek and VC and the rest cannot do what Rolexes do. So, I will stick with a couple of SS Rolexes, not even TT, and feel free to dive them, bang them, wear them daily without being afraid of them going "Kaput"
