Purely on aesthetics I'd go 400. The 500 gains some ground if we start to factor in new movement. The 3120 has been perfectly reliable for me though and is beautifully finished for a base movement ... so other than the smallish size in the 41mm case, it's hard to knock it.
And before anyone claims bias (I own a blue 15400), I could pick up a 500 at MSRP and sell my 400 for a nice profit. So if I did like the 500 more I'd have an additional incentive to make the move.

15500 it looks better in person. The chapter ring may look a bit off in pics but not an issue in hand.

The 500 looks “empty” in the bottom half. I know the “automatic” text is unnecessary but IMO it gave the 400 a more balanced look..

I prefer the blue dial over the model variant, so whichever one in blue.

I general, 15500 wins in the date window but the 15400 wins everywhere else.... 15400
If its a blue 15400 and a grey 15500 specifically you are asking about and not the models, its still the 15400.

I much prefer the 15500, but only with blue dia, so in this case I'd go for the 15400 because of dial colour. If I was offered a choice of 15500 or 15400 in blue, I'd go 155.

I'm probably biased because I own one, but I really think the 15400 looks much better. The 15500 dial looks a little naked to me and I actually prefer the date window inside the stick marking.

Interesting seeing the pole. Personally I think once the 15500 has had time to become acclimatised it will be accepted above the 15400.

I like the 15400 (granted, I own one) but would be equally happy with either. Very subtle differences in real life. Either has a couple things I like over the other if I slice it too fine.

No contest. The 15500 all day long. I dont need my AP dial to tell me its not a quartz....
Plus much better power reserve. And the blue shade to my eyes is nicer on the 15500. |

It's 70 hours on 500 vs 60 on the 400. An improvement, yes, but not "much better" IMO. Either will still be beating on Monday morning if you don't wear it for the weekend.

400 ftw. I think the half marker at 3 does a great job of keeping the dial more symmetrical, and I also feel the bottom half of the dial is missing something on the 500.

15400 dial just looks so much better than 15500 in my opinion.

Apparently the 15500 is much better in person/on wrist.....I'll know by end of week, mine should be here by then :-) Let's see!

I am willing to bet this poll reverses if we re do it in 2 years when more members have had the 15500 on their wrist.

15400, I love its rotor since it looks more classical and like a piece of art.

I don’t really like the ring around the 15500 bezel.

Looking at that wrist pic above, the 15400 is SOOOOOOOOOOO much nicer. It's not even close.
