Quality between the DJ41 and Submariner

Ive read in previous threads that the quality in the sub is vastly superior to the DJ41. Due to the SS shortage in the ADs ive never had the opportunity that even hold either of these pieces. For those who have handled both did you feel the same way? out of the two which felt more "premium"?

Sub is thicker and has the crown guards. Feels beefier. My hands aren't sensitive enough to feel a difference in weight, but I imagine the Sub is heavier.

The Sub was created as a tool watch, while the DJ is dressier. If I were to drop both watches on concrete, I think both would get broken.

So how do you define quality?

they are all top notch.
Sub get triplock crown(in fact
with 4 o ring), DJ get twinlock ( 2 o ring).
Sub is heavier 155 grs, DJ 134 grs.
Anyway on daily use they are equal.
Not that long ago a Sub weighted 130 grs.
The back of Sub is thicker to handle the pressure.

Man, the DJ doesn't feel cheap in any way. Rolex doesn't do low quality anything. Even the OP's, lowest priced men's SS, looks and feels like a Rolex should.

People should never confuse size and weight with build quality.

Quality between the DJ41 and Submariner

The quality and build level is identical. Just because the Sub is bigger and heavier doesn't mean anything.

For what it's worth my DJ41 Bracelet feels better than my GMT bracelet but maybe that's because the GMT is two tone and the gold is softer. Despite it being much heavier I prefer the feel of the DJ41 Bracelet (oyster as well).

I think the only time I've picked up a Rolex and felt it didn't match the quality of similar watches was the oyster perpetual and that's only because it's bracelet is actually thinner than for example the DJ41 Bracelet. Once again the build QUALITY is identical. Don't confuse size and weight with quality.

This. I was browsing with my GF who has teeny wrists and we were looking at DJ 28's and they felt incredibly solid for a small watch. Everything about them oozed the same build quality.

I’ve owned Subs and DJs in both 5 digit and 6 digit models. I’ve never found there to be a difference in quality. Both consistently run great, are finished well, and are durable.

Both superb quality on outside.

One could argue better quality on inside of new DJ (higher quality newer movement with 70 hour power reserve).

Here’s my NDSub but I’m waiting for my (ordered) DJ41 to arrive.

Sub feels tougher. DJ41 feels sleeker. Both feel high quality.

DJ41 case has amazing concave curves on the sides that come around and touch at a razor sharp line down the lugs. The jubilee bracelet wears more comfortably than the oyster for me. I have the 116713 for comparison which I ended up putting on a leather Everest with steel end links.

DJ41 quality is top notch. Mine keeps +0.2 spd. The quality feel in hand is no different than the GMT to me.

I am assuming those threads weren't on here?
I think most people here know that it isn't the case. Quality is consistent across the range.

Side note: one of my favorite authors, Robert Pirsig, wrote two books on answering that very question, titled Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and Lila: an Inquiry into Morals. Both are phenomenal books and excellent introductions into philosophy without the dense and obtuse old English diction.

Regarding OP's question: I doubt it.

Honestly, I don't recall any previous threads where someone made that claim, but I'll take your word for it. The DJ of any size, and the OP are, without a doubt, the backbone of Rolex. For all recreational purposes, you can do anything with a DJ that you can do with a Sub. If someone is shoveling out that nonsense, it is only because they just bought a Sub.

I think one of the good things about Rolex is that the “quality” of their watches is the same across the whole range. The cheapest Rolex uses the same quality of movement as the most expensive. The steel is the same etc etc

They are different but quality is brilliant at all prices.

I don't really understand your post, OP. The quality is the same. They are manufactured using the same level of expertise and quality - they are just simply two different models.

It's like you asking if a Porsche 4x4 is better quality than a 911. They are entirely different, yet made using the same standards.

When you make reference to 'previous posts' I think you are referring to discussions that have discussed the movement, which others, including myself have commented on.

I own both but the DJ41 movement feels grainier than the Sub movement, but you'd expect that, as they are two completely different watches.

One is no less inferior to the other.

Don’t believe it for a minute. My dad owned a DD and DJ and wore them for 30 years as a contractor, and I’m not talking just in meetings, I’m talking on jobs, around heavy machinery, and working with his hands daily. 25+ years never serviced.

Rolex oyster platform is basically the same so much so that on your 5th, 6th or 7th watch you kind of get the feeling you are unboxing the same watch over and over again.

That’s like saying that cross country trainers are better than leather soled shoes because the soles are thicker.

No way does the sub "feel" superior to the DJ41. We aren't comparing Rolex to Tudor here - like for like, the DJ41 feels great and preminum as do all 6 digit references.

both are top class, but the bling factor of DJ41 >>> a sub

general ppl who knows nothing about watch at all will say that DJ41 is more expensive watch than a sub when see one in the wild.
