Trade in OP39 for Explorer 1

Hello everyone,

I currently own a black OP39, but have been secretly lusting after an Explorer 1. Does it make sense to go from an OP39 to an Explorer 1 since they look pretty similar? I purchased my OP39 brand new so I would probably have to come $2,000 USD out of pocket to fund the Explorer 1. My friend is telling me that if I am going to sell my OP39 I should go for something else like a DJ41 or a Sub. Thoughts?

Keep in mind that my OP39 has an easylink extension in the clasp as well. The clasps arent THAT different from one another.

I’ve often wondered about this same thing. Lume filled numerals and a different more flatter less domed bezel on the Explorer, also and I’m not 100% sure on this but the Explorer might have a more robust shock absorbing system than the OP, tough call.

The OP39 and Explorer 1 use the same case. If you have the Easylink already, the only thing the Explorer will have is the flip lock on the clasp. You arent missing much unless you are looking for a different dial, hands and bezel.

I’d do that flip easily. You gain an icon with the Explorer

This trade doesn’t make sense to me. Especially with your upgraded bracelet.

I have the Exp and love it, but it seems like you're sitting the fence on what model to move on/up to next. If so, then your friend is right in the sense that, if, as between an Exp v. Sub v. DJ41, and if you'd like a Sub or DJ41, then grab one of those.

My point is that I agree with others who said you're not gaining too much between Exp and OP39, so if you're looking to parlay your OP39 into some other model and you're really not beholden to any one in particular, then grab the one that's the most coveted that you can enjoy. I think play around with the DJ41. Look, we all love the Sub, but the black is ubiquitous. Why not get a DJ41 with which you can personalize some style?

I’d do that deal in a heart beat. Love an Explorer.

I actually prefer the OP39. I’d keep it.

I prefer the Explorer of the two. As some others have said I would be tempted to go Submariner ND.
