Please Help with Restoration?
Hello everyone,
Found this lovely piece today at a local sale among a bunch of "junk" parts watches. It appears to still run/work fine, but does need some TLC as you can see. And as you see it, is how I found it today. Can someone please help direct me in the right direction regarding restoring? Is this piece worth the time and money to restore? Serial number gives it a date of roughly 1954. Ref is a 6284. Thank you all so much for your time and thoughts. Kind regards, Jo P.S. still faintly engraved on the case back is the former owner's surname and date (1956). |

Looks like a great find, you should definitely fix it up. It looks like all you really need is the bezel and crystal. Aside from that, I don't think you'd want to do any further restoration.

@Dan S,
Thanks for your reply and thoughts. Yes, the bezel and crystal,....and I believe the blue(?) second hand is missing? What about cleaning, polishing and service....it's quite dirty. How and where do I obtain those parts? Is it best to send the piece to Bob & Phillip Ridley for restoration or another restorer? (found Bob & Phillip while researching within the forum). |

Yes, I missed the second hand, correct.
Certainly, contacting Bob or Phillip Ridley would be a totally appropriate approach. I'm sure they will do a great job for you, and they can probably help you find the right parts.

Anything is worth restoring if it is done with the right perspective.
This watch will likely cost as much to restore as it is worth. However, if you don't, who will? You will also have a piece that will likely increase in value while in the condition that it is not in it is likely doomed to the bin at some point.

Thats beautiful. Is that a honeycomb dial? I would certainly have it restored.
This is mine from the same period. It was my Dads watch Precesion Wrist.jpeg |

Be worth servicing/cleaning and fitting the missing parts and wearing.

Thank you ALL so much for your replies and thoughts, most appreciated.
My plan is to have this piece restored, but as you all can see from my posts (or lack thereof) I'm not a seasoned collector and I don't know what I might be getting myself into regarding restoration cost. Mr. Philip Ridley did reach out to me offering guidance/help and I'm patiently waiting his reply in respects to approx cost/wait time, etc.......never had something like this done before. Kind regards, Jo P.S. beautiful watch @BisonHead and yes, my piece does appear to have a honeycomb dial. |
