UK Insurance

I just went to add my new watch to the home insurance and nearly had a heart attack at the price i was given. I currently have 4 watches on teh policy and it stands in at about £400-£500 a year. I added a 5th watch and it jumped to over £2k a year. How is that possible?

Is it calculated on total insured value or on individual pieces. This is just ridiculous!

What do people pay? I am based in London. Are there watch insurance specialists that will just cover the watches at a sensible rate or is this madness something i either live with or do without?

My home insurance company refused to insure all of my watches on the household policy as the value was to large.
So some are on house contents and some covered by Ripe Insurance at a reasonable cost.

I use Direct Line Select, no it’s not just car insurance. For my house building and contents and 35k of Watches fully covered inside and outside it’s £870. I live in the North West. I don’t think that’s too bad.

A friend of mine just put me onto Aviva Insurance which appears to tick the boxes. Their Premium level of cover offers £50k limit as standard for valuables (with no need to specify individual items just be able to prove ownership in the case of theft). This is on top of unlimited buildings and contents cover. Coupled with £15k of personal possessions cover for theft when out of the house it stands in at just over £700 with a £200 excess. Looks rather good. Will double check Direct Line and then get something in place and get great enjoyment out of cancelling my current insurance who wanted £2.5k

Hiscox are happy to insure quite high values of watches, so worth getting a quote.
