What’s the Chain of Command at your typical ROLEX AD?
Sales associates
Sales managers Sales president Am I missing any? I have it on good authority that when a hot watch is received, a discussion amongst the sales team is held in order to decide who will get the lucky call. |

Yep, same here. My AD told me the watches come in and they have a meeting to decide how to hand them out. So the list isn't a queue in other words.

In chains that own multiple AD sites, the process is different since no “owner” is involved. Think Watches of Switzerland as an example of that.
In those large outfits it is a multi-layered approach since product is received and distributed differently. But many ADs are single site, family owned jewelers where the decision making is flat. The owner(s) decide. That’s how it’s done at my nearby AD. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

The SA at my local small AD said they have a meeting and each SA has their chance to make their case for their client. After everyone had had a chance to make their pitch, the owner decides among them. He said I got my BLNR 2 after discussion and a coin flip between my SA and one other SA who also had a compelling story. I believe him. I'm sure whales take priority always but then this process goes into effect for any remaining pieces.

I don’t deal with any of the above mentioned titles at my AD.... I’m lucky enough that the CEO / owner is the only contact I request watches from. :-)

The longer the list with people who has something to say, the smaller the chance you will get what you want.

My AD is one of six or so stores in a franchised chain. My salesman said they have about 1 day to sell the watch to a preferred client or walkin customer and if no one buys it, it gets shipped away the next day to the corporate office where they allocate it between all corporate franchise stores. No idea if that's true but it seems reasonable since I got my BLNR the day it came in, still in the FedEx box when I got there.

From my experience, its the owner, or the Watch Manager make the final decision. If you have a strong relationship with a senior staff member they will pitch the decision-makers for you.

i began my relationship (yeah yeah, i know) by speaking at length with the owner of the shop, and he turned me over to his watch department manager, who is exceptional and very well versed (as well as being a trained watchmaker). there is also a watch service coordinator i deal with regularly.
as far as i can tell, it usually winds up on the desk of the WM, and if i have been passed over for certain pieces i’m not complaining, as my collection is still growing.

Up here in Canada if you build a relationship at an AD it is possible to get a couple steel sports fairly quickly a few months rather then years but the ADs make deals. We will give you a SD43 and a sub but you need to also purchase a precious metal model. It’s crazy.

I just deal with the store manager, it is a chain but not a national chain with locations in only two states. I gave them my name, watch came in, they called, and I picked it up and paid.
