About to eject

Current assortment is a hulk, oyster BLNR and a black 116710. Just sold my 116610LN to a grey for over MSRP.

Anyways, I think I’ve just transitioned mentally from watches that always look brand new. Like it is what it is forever, and any “character” aside from hairlines will be looked at as damage in the future. Not the fault of the watch of course

So that brings me to today. Just celebrated a big birthday (40) and the bizarre state of the market puts me in the range of some good vintage stuff.

I have always wanted a red 1680. Always. I’m in the process of making an appointment with a local dealer that’s willing to work a trade.

At this point in my life I kind of want to get some great vintage piece and become its caretaker. And they are fundamentally so much more interesting. Thoughts?

If your desires, go for it. If your bored of your others go for it. I have been wearing my 16710 much more lately because i'm in a small simple and old phase. Just make sure this isn't a phase for you (you know yourself best) that you may regret later on.

You going to check out HQ?

Many Rolex / watch collectors end up here eventually. You want to move from a watch that is basically a commodity (all the same) to vintage pieces that are more individual, difficult to obtain, warm, etc etc

With that said its a much more difficult and dangerous world take your time.

I think I am right there with you. A vintage sub and speedmaster is all you need.

I used to crave vintage but after getting a brand new Rolex I just have a hard time going back to the old bracelet and bezels. I'm ok with it on other models like Omega and Tudor, but for Rolex I guess I just want it to be the best of the best. Six digit for me....

Just from a matter of availability I think I’ll be ok

Will a hulk ever be a red sub?

I’m likely to keep one, maybe. I don’t see anything modern being truly scarce any time soon

I like variety. Love the 16710 and Hulk, and very happy with the DD40. BUT I do catch myself checking out HQ Milton a lot, and I would love a nice 4-digit.

If one were to move for it, it would be the Hulk, especially with the return I would get for it. Every time I think about it though, I slap the Hulk on and it always makes me smile. The green dial is just something else and it is so different that I feel like I'd regret selling it for just another sub (in other people's eyes).

Long story short - tough call. I'd definitely get rid of your other 2 before the Hulk though.
