I don’t have a 5980r but I think the 12r wears better too. Less top heavy. I always felt this watch was very Patek in the dress watch sense

i had both and liked the 5980R much better. the top heavy connotation is really a myth, it wore great on my small wrist. i kept it for a while but then i was done with it just as with the 5712R. i really prefer bracelet watches.

How are you finding the 5980R compared to 5980/1R?

the 1R is the more beautiful object and watch but the R is more wearable. i have yet to find an occasion where i can wear the 1R and feel well with it. and i am not someone who is afraid of wearing gold watches, the 5711R always feels great as does the yellow gold daytona green dial. the 5980 1R is soooo big and sooo heavy...

is it only heavy as you wear women's beads with your watches?

The other one I'm considering is 5980AR. I can only get one.

get the 5980AR and don't get bothered by that talk 'bi-color is an acquired taste, bi-color is for people who cannot afford full gold etc etc'. the AR is the best looking 5980 including the steel models, at least IMHO.
i had it and sold it because i fell for that nonsense and will get it again in december hopefully.
